I would like to order my new machine in the next week or so, those apple gift cards are buring a hole in my pocket.

I will be using the machine to learn Aperture, Photoshop and maybe some other programs for playing with pictures. And I'll be using it for stuff like hw (MBA student) web surfing, burning Springsteen boots.

I'd like to also get a 30" monitor for playing with travel shots, watching movies, etc.

So I have 2 configurations, I plan on updating the RAM via 3rd party to save some $$$.

Option A
2GHz Dual-core PowerPC G5
1GB 533 DDR2 Non ECC SDRAM - 2x512
250GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 256MB SDRAM

Option B
2.3GHz Dual-core PowerPC G5
1GB 533 DDR2 Non ECC SDRAM- 2x512
250GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 256MB SDRAM

Is option B worth the extra $350?
Do these specs meet my needs?

If you're running Aperture and Photoshop, you can't get a fast enough computer. If you can afford the extra $350, go for it and don't look back. If you're going to be purchasing Aperture and Photoshop, I can't imagine $350 is a huge deal to you. Go with the 2.3

Come waste your time with me

apple don't do TV tuners, but there are several on the mac market though.

Do I still buy the machine listed above or buy an iMac or one of these new Notebooks or just hold off a little longer?

I already purchased Aperture with my EDU discount, it is sitting unopened in the my office. But that'sno big deal.

Any help is welcomed, I don't want to Fup my first real Mac purchase.

I guess the sticking point with this will be if it can run aperture and be semi portable, they seem so big in the store. And 5.6lbs isn't very light.

wonder what the edu pricing will be.

After today I don't know what to buy, PowerMac, iMac with Intel inside, MacBook Pro. $2k in gift cards and I'm stuck in neutral
