Can anybody recommend a video breakout card/external unit that has basic video output ie. component/s-video.

A little more info on what you're attempting to do here? Also, are you sure you mean component and not composite? Just curious, as composite is quite a bit more 'basic' than component.

If all you want is video output, wouldn't Apple's adapter from mini-VGA, mini-DVI or whichever it is you have suffice?
