View Full Version : Creaky Powerbook Hinge
Okay, lately when I open my powerbook, and attempt to adjust the 15" screen the hinge has been creaking in a very annoying manner. Have any of you had many problems with this recently or in life? I'm sitting at my local Genius Bar at the moment wondering what my tech. will say. I'll also ask about Steve's track-pad problem seeing as I've been having the same problem.

Just get a can of WD-40 and spray it all over the back of the PB, it helps if you get it in the air vents too.
;)
I get a slight creak, but only when the screen is almost fully extended back, other than that, it's smooth sailing. I don't really think it's a problem either, just something that happens. Just a note: I have a Rev. C 12"
Yeah. Well here is the story. Apparently this noise is caused due to a tighter hinge system added in the Rev. B systems; in light of consumer complains about loose screens falling in Rev. A systems. So even tho it is a disturbing sound it is "within specifications," but can be sent in or they offered to "loosen some screws" for me.
However, as a side note: track-pads are not covered in warranty is what I was told, and nothing can be done. Altho this seems more like a run around from a lazy tech. :|

Major Bump.
I have been getting a lot of creaking and rattling on the screen hinge on my Macbook. Anyone else experiencing this, and anything I can do about it? :) Cheers.
Yeah my hinge on my MacBook squeaks and creaks like crazy when opening or closing it. It also will creak adjusting it or moving it. It really annoys me but I don't know of any way to fix it.

My Rev. B 12" PB used to have a really creaky hinge a couple years ago, but it went away on its own.
