This is a tough one I suspect. Since this problem started, I have rebuilt the system from scratch without improvement. After watching a few trailers on the web in Safari or Camino, my PB locks up. The mouse moves, but nothing clicks or changes. The keyboard is inactive except for forced reboot. I use QuickTime pro. I have done all the ordinary maintenance routines, still no joy. It has locked up in a few other programs, Keynote, and ???. But normally on the web. I have run the standard hardware diagnostics for hours with no errors.

Thanks for your help

Can you try one thing. Create another account on you mac, call it test or something. And try doing the same things u usually do in your usual account that end up freezing your pbook. If nothing freezes in the new account i would then assume its a software issue and not really a major issue... easily solevable. If it still freezes might be a hardware issue.

another thing u can try is trashing the prefrences of the programs that cause you problems incase you haven't done that already.

also download firefox (mozilla.org) and see if that solves your issue.

finally if after all this we are still in the same place then try to provide more info. the more info and details you can provide us, ie: hardware specs (did u add more ram for example also), what do u do in a certain software that freezes your mac etc.. the more we will be able to pin point the problem.

Did you run the diagnostics that came with the Apple Hardware test cd?

This is a tough one I suspect. Since this problem started, I have rebuilt the system from scratch without improvement. What exactly did you do to rebuild from scratch?
Archive & Install?
Erase & Install?

You might want to try again, but this time, test movie playing before reinstalling Keynote. It's known to cause occasional problems with QT pro playback.

Thanks for your replies.
I erased and installed a fresh copy of 10.3.4 & Classic on the last edition Ti 1GHz 512 MB Apple-installed RAM Stock machine except for SideTrack trackpad driver (through 2 revisions already with my problem) I ran the Apple hardware diagnostics for about 3 hours.
The problem occurs on Safari, Camino and Mozilla.
My main apps are Safari, Mail, Keynote, Excel, Word, GoLive, BBEdit, Interarchy.
I will try to create another account, and see if it happens there.
I will try trashing the preferences on the afflicted programs as well.
I am downloading Firefox as I write.

Also it happens more often when I have been charging the computer while it sleeps. Without this problem I usually shut down and reboot once a week or so.

Thanks for your suggestions

Doug

So sorry!
I have been terribly busy teaching class and preparing for it I haven't had time to monkey with my system. I also haven't been watching many movies, or doing much else. Only one freezup since the last post.

I'll try to get on it again when I have a bit of time and it is annoying me more. I have been looking around for some additional thoughts though.

Thanks
