Has anyone turned their iPod into an infrared remote control for all their remote devices? This guy here did.

Basically he recorded the "sounds" of all his IR remotes on to his pc (yeah pc but it'll work on a mac) and then uploaded those sounds into iTunes as playlists. I'm curious if anyone here has done this and how well it works? He has a little antenna thingy attached to his iPod that sends the signal up to 100 feet. Very cool little project.

Needlessly complicated is what it is, IMHO. I really think that Apple will come out with some sort of WiFi remote for the APExpress sometime soon. But that really has nothing to do with that. haha.

Point is, it's too complicated, just get a universal remote :)

No way man! This is why I need another iPod. One for the gym and one for the tv, microwave, robot, dvd/cd, fireplace and lighting.

I've said it before - I would love to see the iPod evolve to further enhance the digital hub concept espoused by Steve.

In fact, the 3G iPod navigation buttons sort of reminded me of the DVD player controls in OS X. link (http://homepage.mac.com/ajsonego/lookatthis/DVD_iPod.jpg) I think it would be cool for the iPod to adopt some remote control capabilities! (but that's just me ;) )

I would have loved to see the 4G iPods be WiFi or even IR remotes. But it didn't happen. However, if the 5G is a remote for say the APExpress, my 4G is getting eBayed so fast it'll make your head spin. :)

of course its complicated, its as complicated as trying to automate your toaster w/ that color classic you have in your closet. the point is that somone had a very cool idea to take a gadged designed for one thing, and added the capability for it to do something completely different and new. its not like joe blow is supposed read this article and try it himself. its about making something more than it was.
