AirTunes - Cool product with POTENTIAL (I already own one so you know how I feel) while others are waiting for 'more'.

Minor/Major Issue: You still need to go to your computer be it wired or wireless to change the song.

Ultimate Fix: The iPod becomes the remote.
Problem: WiFi is just TOO taxing on the battery for this to happen 'today'.

Work arounds:

- iPod with Wifi without HD rendezvous to home computer and act as the remote. This is 'okay' but still requires itunes to always be running on local computer which must always be on.

- iPod accessory pop-on type device that provided additional wireless feature and its own on board battery. - I dunno, I like to but too hack-like and then that would be ONE MORE THING that would need to be charged.
BLECH

What else?? Anyone got any 'think different' ideas?

Dave

I have no idea how these technical problems could be overcome, but here's the iPod-like controller to a Third-Party wireless music system that I want to show everyone anyway.

Sonos showed that off at the WSJ D: conference and Teh Steve reportedly was none too happy, told them that the wheel is probably going to be an issue.

Yeah, heard about that. Bummer for the guys at Sonos. Nice product. Steve Steved them a second time by releasing AirportExpress/Airtunes, what, 24 hours later? :err:

Same day actually.

Anyway, something like that Sonos console is maybe a bit more elaborate that I hope Apple would produce. It really looks like it would take two hands to operate, meaning that the owner would be required to wear one of those hats with straws and cup holders to keep the beverage of choice flowing. I'm hoping that any dedicated controller or iPod atachment will be slim enough to avoid subjecting people to that fate, and retain the simple controls to which we have become accustomed.
