I don't know if we have any ID users here, but I hope so....

Is it possible to have text not be horizontal but at an angle? I've got (something like) 1/3 of a circle and it's divided into thirds. I want the text within these text blocks to be rotated relative to the center of the circle. Does that make any sense at all? I can post an example if you like.

Thus far, all I can get it to do is rotate the text box but the text remains horizontal. TIA.

It sounds like you're talking about "text on a path" (text following a curve or circle's path, conforming to the shape)?

Yes, InDesign should do that.

Look in your type tool pallette (that "T" in your toolbar). Does it "fly out" to reveal some other "T"-oriented tools? There should be one that looks like a "T" riding on a curve...

I won't waste time/space talking about it until I know that's what you're referring to. Wanna make sure...

:)

Not exactly. Lemme just put up the pdf file so you can see it. Basically, what I'm hoping to do is get the text in the left and right "panes" turned at an angle, starting in the center of the arc. Does that make any sense? Thanks.

A pdf of it (http://homepage.mac.com/torifile/.Pictures/program.pdf)

Yikes...post an example, please. I re-read your post and I'm not sure WHAT you're asking about. :D

If you can show an example, I believe I can help!

Sorry. I've never been a very good descriptive writer. :D I've posted the pdf of it above. :)

Video tutorial for Text on Path (http://www.hollywoodindustry.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=5948)

draw your paths as radial lines out from the center of your wedge for accurate placement, but you could just as easily draw horizontal paths and then select and rotate the path end point until it gets the angle you want.

edit: forgot to ask which version of ID you're using

Just put the text that goes in each "slice" in a separate text box, and then rotate each box 15 degrees one way, and 15 degrees the other, to fit each slice.

Make sense? Is that what you're looking for?

Edit. Definitely follow the above post if you want your text on a curve; if you want it horizontally-aligned but aligned to the center axis, like the middle slice in your PDF, heed my advice.

Okay, I see now. Yeah...hmmm. Sucks that I don't have InDesign in front of me...

A "quick fix" would be to take that center panel and rotate a copy of it to both the left and right and text areas and simply copy the appropriate text into those two tilted copies. That would give you the look you want.

Make the origin of your rotation the bottom point, where the "fan" shapes all meet. Hold your option key while dragging the shape and it'll make a copy.

That's how I would do it...quick and easy. Then just copy and paste the side panel text into the appropriate fields.

A more "serious and true" method probably involves the Area Type tool and whatnot, but I just can't speak to it, not having access to InDesign here.

Example (http://homepage.mac.com/pscates/desk/type.jpg). Example is quick Illustrator, but principle applies to InDesign...

...OR what Hobbes said. :D

Same thing I was talking about, but he says it cooler.

27 does sound a bit more accurate. ;)
