Don't know if this was disscussed in the TS spec whore thread but here goes. "Apple hints at colorful computer plans" (http://news.com.com/Apple+hints+at+colorful+computer+plans/2100-1041_3-5311795.html?tag=nefd.top)
Sounds cool to me. I wonder if it can switch between colors like one of those trippy lamps you can buy in Spencers? :)
G5 color iMac. Damn man...

Well that's kinda interesting. I think.
I hope, however, not at the expense of honest-to-goodness lifting power and/or price.
If this is some silly-ass gimmick that's merely going to add $350 to the cost and appeal to, oh, 2% of the population, then no...it's not cool.
And it might not even be the iMac, although I couldn't imagine what else. Probably is.
So we still have an AIO no one's asking for, augmented with groovy lava lamp technology that, you guessed it, no one's asking for.
;)
Should be interesting...
They probaly had a big meeting at Apple a year or so ago and someone in the room probably just said what everyone's been thinking: "You know what, guys, for all the G5 and iPod success, fact is we haven't soared nearly as high lately as we did when we were making all that colorful shit...think about it".
After Steve kneed him him in the cods for speaking so bluntly, they all came to the realization that "you know, the ass was right...".
Out comes the iPod mini (it could've simply been white, right?). And now this story...
:D
Apple trying to recapture a bit of that 1998-2000 glory. Can't say I blame 'em, because that was a very cool time to be a Mac user. So many pretty colors...

i'd love to see iTunes visualizations on my computer's skin. that would be the shit.
I wonder what kind of matrix would be needed for something like that, and how fragile it would be? Maybe with OLEDs? Just speculating...

Dude, think of the image possibilities! Naked Heidi Klum iMac, here I come :D
Old news. I remember this patent being discussed over at the dotcom ages ago.
I believe that it was eventually attributed to being used for the lighting under the keyboards in the PowerBooks.
Of course, maybe things have changed...

If Apple manage to wrap the new iMac in OLED then they could do more than colour...they could have information appear on the shell of the mac!
