View Full Version : How can I play this avi?

I've had some success with DivX Doctor II, VLC, QT, and/or MPlayer X on other videos, but this one is stumping me:

http://www.bilb0.net/~freakonaleash/CTRvFRSvLCR.avi
*warning -- 77 MB!**

I can get audio to play, and have exported the audio from QT Pro (it's on my iPod now). But, no matter what I've tried, nothing has been able to convert the video into something playable. Nothing from DiVX seems to work, VLC can't touch it, and I can't make Windows Media Player recognize it as a valid file (VLC's error message says it's a WMV3 codec).

I've thrown everything I could find at this video, and I can't get it to work. Any ideas?

Well, it's WMV3 video in an AVI wrapper. Which is a really, really, really bad idea and shouldn't happen. The latest Xine on Linux will play it (probably the *next* version of VLC too, whenever that appears), and there may be utilities that will convert the wrapper to WMV, which Windows Media Player will then play.

Bleah, that sucks.

Anything that'll do the conversion on OSX? Either Versiontracker or MacUpdate doesn't have anything, or I'm just not searching with the right terms...
