My friend's grandma has a Power Macintosh G3 AIO (OS 10.3), a Power Macintosh 7200/80 (OS 9.1), and a LaserWriter Select 360f. Essentially, the LaserWriter wont work in OS X without a LocalTalk to ethernet bridge, and we're trying to use printer sharing to print to the LaserWriter though the 7200/80. The two computers are connected using a crossover ethernet cable.

My problem is this: the printer will only work via LocalTalk if AppleTalk is over the printer port. Pretty much any communication between the two computers will only work if AppleTalk is over the ethernet port. AppleTalk can't be used on two ports at once, thus my problem.

I have two questions, and other than that any general advice would be helpful. First of all, if I set TCP/IP to connect using AppleTalk, would this let me use AppleTalk on both the printer and ethernet ports? Furthermore, what configuration would I need to do to get everything flowing smoothly?

Secondly, on the 7200 (running OS 9.1) is there anything I need to do to share the printer, or is it automatically shared?

I'm fully aware that all of this would be easily solved by buying a Farallon iPrint or an AsanteTalk, however, that would require additional funds. I would also test the above questions myself, but I lack physical access to the computer at the moment.

That little piece of software has finally let the G3 print while booted in OS X.

Thanks for your help.
