View Full Version : One thing iTMS could really use
Really? Why? How many people do you think really know which labels own their favorite artists?
There is no harm including it. Also the capability to search for independent labels would be neat too. Even if only a small percentage of iTMS users actually USE it, that's still thousands and thousands of people.
Additionally, Apple would be in a position to appease record labels if needs be, they could promote whole labels like blue note or windham hill.
Another thing is, in the past 4 weeks apple has been adding TONS of indian classical music from the Record label SaReGaMa, other than that, they have no commonality, and there is no way to find them all at once and the browse through them. And this isn't the first time something similar like that has happened.

Search by record label.
I agree. I've wanted this for a while now.

Indeed. Most of the stuff I'd be interested in on iTMS is on the independent labels. It'd make it a hell of a lot easier to find new music.

well, the nice part is it would be a less direct way for people so search for "who can i buy stuff from where no money will go to the RIAA"
then i might buy crap from them.
Good resource:

One thing that needs fixing is "Various Artists" when browsing within a genre. Gah. It gets paradoxical. Like if you are in Classical it finds tons of stuff that has nothing to do with Classical. (Is it merely finding the word classic somewhere perhaps?)...

it would be great to see "storefronts" for indie labels. So that you could always go to the same place and see what the label has put out recently. They could also do a new compilation or iMix every month or few months highlighting the roster of thier label.
This would be really great but only for indies. I'm not sure anyone wants to hear 15 randomly picked tracks from the UMG roster, but with smaller labels it would be a great way to find new bands.

What an excellent idea. I'm shocked this doesn't exist already.
(btw, brad was totally pwnt in this thread :D)
I'm fairly certain searching by time might be helpful to someone too, at least in conjunction with other search criteria. I know that I myself have made playlists that have songs limited to a certain length, just to avoid it being too herky-jerky.
It doesn't need to be seen in the "browse" mode (that would be impossible or at least awkward), but in the advanced search it might be nice. Basically anything that works in a smart playlist should work for the store.

Yea, it just runs a search for terms when you click on links sometimes. Not necessarily the best system, but definitely an easy one for them to implement.
Search by time would be a nice feature too. I would probably spend a lot of time playing with that.
I dunno, it's like, when I'm using iTunes and I make a smart playlist there are so many options and parameters, you can do by song length fercrissakes. I wish Apple would incorporate a similar depth in options to the iTMS, nicely hidden away in the "advanced search" area, so it wouldn't get in the way, or they could advertise and milk the feature as a means to show how iTMS is best. whatever, as long as they do it :p

Seriously! They've done this before, from time to time, where they have like a special feature like "the motown collection" or whatever, but once they stop linking to it on the main page(s), it fades to obscurity.

At the request of their fans, Matador Records asked Apple to include this feature and last I heard they were going to add in one of the updates. But that was a while ago, I think just after iTunes for Windows was released.
