I'm considering getting a PowerMate Control to use for scrolling during the composition of text files.
Ideally, I'd like a scroll wheel on the Apple Bluetooth Mouse, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
So, does anyone know if PowerMate is considering making a Bluetooth version of its current USB PowerMate Volume Control Knob?
THAT is a great idea...
me/ goes to post some feedback at griffin website

The PowerMate is a great little thing, I'd love a bluetooth version of it. But the size would be a limiting factor in available batteries.

Unfortunately, we cannot comment on unannounced products.

Allow me to allay your dismay here and tell you that it won't happen. I don't know if you own a PowerMate, but I do and I can tell you that no battery will fit in the thing, unless it was a watch battery. In that case, the battery life would be terrible. USB is the best solution for this thing, bluetooth just wouldn't work.

Paul,
Depending on how you read the note from Griffin, it may imply that a Bluetooth PowerMate is in the "Works".
To me, not being able to "comment on unannounced products"; implies that they have an unannounced product but it is not ready for release yet.
Then again, maybe this is wishful thinking. Like everyone hoping for G5 PBs by 2005.
Personally, I hope both are true.

I understand what you are saying. But you are assuming it will be the same size and form factor as the existing USB model.
In my opinion, wires are "dead". In 5 years we won't have them, except for a power cord and maybe a monitor cord.

Even the monitor cord may be gone. You're right, they may change the form factor of the thing, but trying to fit an AA battery into this thing would be no small feat. Still, the battery life would be terrible. I just don't see it happening unless they can really knock down the power consumption.

DMB,
Not that they will build what I am pondering, but...
I could easily see a small square base with a depth sufficient for power supply and BT. Done in the same metal as the PowerMate. Maybe 3"x3"x3/4" or there abouts.
It would look very slcik next to a PB.

You had me until square. One of the things I love so much about the PowerMate is how great it looks next to my PB. A small, circular base with a soft blue glow, and matching aluminum finishes. Very sharp. You turn this thing into a square, and you lost me. It loses much of its appeal, IMO. But that's just me, I know some people would enjoy that, but I think it's a great looking thing right now.
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of totally wireless, all Bluetooth and or WiFi components, but this is one of the things I think would get lost in the wireless madness. I just can't see it happening.
Like I said, it's very simple, and it looks great as is.
I like simple, I like uncluttered, I flip out if anything other than my HDD icon stays on my desktop for more than 10 minutes  You start adding things to my PowerMate, and you lost me. I know I may be unique in that, but I really like things how they are. If you needed to put a battery in there and a BT module, it would probably get clunky and cumbersome, and that's just not an option for me.

DMB,
Yeah, you're right. A round base would look better. Probably the smaller the base, the better.
Let's call them and tell them to make it round.

Haha, **CONFIRMED**
Bluetooth PowerMate ;)
I hate to be one of those people who will only buy computer components for aesthetic reasons, but this is one that I'd have to hold out for a round base on.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that BT does find its way into the PowerMate someday, but I won't be buying, I'm quite happy with mine right now. Unless of course it mysteriously breaks ;)
I don't have one...
but coincidentally, I don't have bluetooth either...
