View Full Version : TV Recording Thing
For those of you who have a PVR or DVR (I don't know what to call it), I'm wondering which is the best brand to get. There's only two main choices: Tivo or Replay TV. Time Warner Cable also offers their own brand too.
I'd very much like any input on which is better and any experience anybody has with each. I don't suppose anybody here has owned both kinds?
I had one from our cable provider Time Warner which basically sucked ass. I'd like to get something better. I was leaning towards Replay TV.

I like my ReplayTV. It always seems to work, and you can transfer recorded shows to your Mac using mReplay (http://www.bentpixel.com/fbm/) (I helped the developer design a better GUI for this app, so it wont be this fugly for much longer :D)

I've been looking into this area a little bit.
I am intrigued with EyeTV 500 although I have not tried it yet.

Read the FAQ (http://forums.applenova.com/faq.php?) or this info about vB code (http://forums.applenova.com/misc.php?do=bbcode).

Thanks
The eye tv device is certainly pretty cool but that only hooks up to your computer as far as I know and doesn't come with a hard drive. It's just a box for converting the tv signal to go digital and then putting it over firewire.
Maybe if I had a better computer and a ton of hard drive space.

why did the TWC DVR suck?
did it have a firewire port on it? (unrelated, I know)

It was just really buggy and lacked features. I think it might have had a firewire port on it but I have no idea why. You couldn't do anything with it that I know of.
As far as being buggy it would randomly delete my shows or not record them and it was very slow. Mt family kept it for a while anyway because despite how horrible it was it was still better than using a VCR.
That and it was overpriced.
