This month the theme of the Photo Challenge Thread is: worm's-eye view. Put your camera close to the ground and take a photo! It's that simple.
Here's an example that shows the unusual perspective created by placing the camera on or near the ground:

I'm hoping you'll manage to take a photo with more thoughtful framing than this one, but you might discover that framing accurately is quite hard: doing so might require squirming on the ground very much like a worm. In no circumstances shall I be liable for your lost dignity.
As usual in the PCT, we frown on heavy editing such as high dynamic range (HDR) manipulation, because we want the competition to be open to comers with all levels of technical ability.

The worm's-eye view competition closes at 12:00 am GMT on April 5, and your entry must be taken between now and then. May we each sink to new lows!
Another great subject. Thanks Dorian. It might mean putting my camera down on the snow, but I am not above that. (Pun intended. :lol: I figured if you could do it with your last sentence, so could I.)
Incidentally, Jack Purcell is the name of small community centre near here. I thought that he was just a local name, and did not realize the he had lent his name to a Converse sneaker.

A question: Are there any restrictions how close you mean with "close to the ground"? (The german equivalent to "worms-eye view" would be "Dackelperspektive", which means literally "from the perspective of a Dachshund"). So would something as low as this shot be low enough?

Interesting, Chinney. That's my own foot, incidentally, though I rarely wear Jack Purcells. Comfy, though.

Great shot. I've got an idea of what I'd like to shoot, but it could be tricky, I think I'll need to use the interval timer on the D700 to pull this one off.
It's going to be hard to do something below what you have done Gspotter.

i don't know, he's got some elevation there.
I think that is just a result of using a fisheye, rather than any actual elevation.

I put the camera on the ground, tilted it a bit upwards, propped it against a small bump and used a remote. The fisheye helped of course to exaggerate the dimensions of my foot.
The D700 with an L-bracket (http://forums.applenova.com/showpost.php?p=719456&postcount=109) is a bit taller than a compact camera, so you might still be able to get lower without using a shovel...

Shot this while I was visiting home last weekend. My folks live up in the hills, and there are lots of little trails around that dogs and various other animals use regularly. This is a close-up view of one of them.

Took this one a few weeks ago and was hoping to get something better, but I think this is the best I'll be able to do.
That one also has 'a final moments of the worm' aspect to it. Nice composition.
Yeah, it's not bad considering that I shot it blind into the sun using liveview. I could have done better (straightness wise), but there was too much bird dung on the ground to lay down. :lol:

First, sorry for returning late to this thread.
Second, thanks for the great entires! As always, we could have coped with another couple, but I enjoyed all the photos entered.
GSpotter's is excellent, but I feel the camera was still a little high, or made to look a little high by the fish-eye lens. It's nevertheless clearly an accomplished photo in its own right, expertly envisaged and crafted — and quite humorous too!
Chinney's entry is a charming photograph that certainly meets the low standard accepted! ;) It's enjoyable to look at too, with a crisp line of backlit toys in focus, and a boy in the evocatively blurred background looking out the window, seemingly dreaming of bigger toys.
SpecMode's photo uses depth of field to effectively draw one's attention to the earthy trail, which looks like a worm's paradise!
Turtle and PB PM both shot birds that may well eat worms, and their compositions make good use of the low vantage point to instil a sense of danger. I think PB PM's tilted horizon adds to the feeling of urgency, and is therefore appropriate for the subject.
Ultimately, though, I am most convinced by Chinney's photo, which evokes in me the pathos of growing up.
