it looks like new displays are coming

If apple would keep their mouths shut, they can keep that a rumor. By saying shut up to thinksecret confirms the new displays and the 60 GB HD for the 4g ipod.

yeah but they want to confirm it,
its publicity hype,
they leave it up long enough for it to get around and then c&d thus confirming snd sparking interest
FREE PUBLICITY!

Apple also send a C&D their way regarding the PM updates, (we all remember the pictures). Well, needless to say, the pictures and specs were both wrong. So it could be that Apple has now confirmed it, or it could just be them telling TS to stop spreading crap around.

Exactly. That recent AppleInsider.com story about the new, redesigned internals on the G5 was nowhere near accurate or true, yet Apple allegedly contacted them too.

It might also be a case - and I don't know why they wouldn't - of a site simply wanting to prop its cred up, simply saying "we received a letter from Apple legal..." because they don't have to show or prove it to anyone, do they? If they SAY they received one, and people are - like right now - TALKING about it, visiting a week-old story to see for themselves, etc.

Manipulative bastards.

Jeez...I hope those displays are about as "accurate" as MY rendering of the "new" G5 for .com, because I think they look a bit ugly and top-heavy. Unless they're something really cool going on in the back (in the style of that "slide-able" Eyegonomic TX17 model), this looks like one of those Microtek or Viewsonic displays I see at Staples.

Of course, materials and small touches go a long way too, and the rendering just showed it in a solid, flat gray. There's still hope...

I didn't mind the complete redesign too much ... I mean, it's got to be better than what we've had to live with since the introduction of the G5. They seriously should have had a whole line of Pro G5 styled products ready to go in tandem with the announcement of the G5 last year! :grumble:

With regard to the TS report, I am beginning to have doubts about the absence of ADC with the new G5s still shipping with an ADC connector. Then again, as I've said before, it could be just for legacy purposes so Apple doesn't totally alienate their existing customers. ;)

No matter, bring on the new displays Apple! While you're at it, whip up a new Pro BT keyboard and mouse combo - but not in that plastic white rubbish you've lazily presented us with! Good God - you should have done so much better than that!

Yeah, well I've only been saying that since June 24 last year. ;)

"No, pscates...silver glossy curvy plastic with clear plastic accents goes BEAUTIFULLY with the new G5s...it's all about contrast...".

What some call "contrast", I call "clashing horribly" and "looking like they're from two different times, companies, universes, etc.".

:p

Besides, all you have to know/realize is that Apple has redesigned EVERYTHING in their lineup in the time that their LCDs have existed: iMacs, PowerBooks, iBooks, Power Macs (especially!) and the iPod. The displays are the only things left that still look like 1999-2001. For that reason ALONE they should be changed, never mind the whole "clashing with the G5" thing. For a company as style/appearance-conscious as Apple seems to be on every other level, that's always puzzled me! Surely THEY'VE realized "guys these displays are LONG past-due for a refresh...send Jonathan in here!"

:D

I was genuinely shocked that no new displays were unveiled last June 23 at WWDC, alongside the G5. I thought "okay, autumn then...". Nope. "Okay, surely Macworld...HAS to be!". Guess again. "Dammit, spring 2004, with the new G5?!?". Ha, fat chance pal.

I'm guessing 2006 now?

You know the fact is I'm happy to bitch and moan about Apple's lackadaisical approach to updating their displays and their pathetic offering for a BT keyboard/mouse combo, b/c I have not bought either! That could be a message to them... when the product is right, the public will buy! (or at least I will!)

I count myself lucky that I do not own a G5 and am stuck lamenting the fact that my display, keyboard and mouse do not match the computer. (Don't get me wrong I would love a G5 - I'm referring to the poor matching of hardware in the total Pro level package) I know it might sound petty, but Apple virtually staked their reputation on providing the user with the whole box and dice: "we design the whole widget". Judging from the past year, though, it looks as if they don't care for integration and matching component elegance for their Pro lineup and that is poor form!

Geez (I'm on a roll here), I bitch and moan because I care! I'm doing it for all those who are so compliant as to say, "Yeah, well it's Apple - it's all good". Folks, I used to be like that. Not any more. It is the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. When something is not right Apple needs to hear about it. (As to what effect I'm having mouthing off right here is anybody's guess - yes, I get the irony ;) )

Don't know how to wind this up 'cept to say bring on the elegantly designed peripherals line up to match your Pro machines. It's not a big ask, and it should have happened ages ago. :grumble:

Think Secret usually doesn't get many C&D orders. I think mostly they have to do with images that are posted in conjunction with rumors. You will rarely see a rumor alone get the C&D order; it's always the renderings and leaked photos that get the axe if memory serves.

That being the case I don't know that we can leap to the conclusion that "they must be coming soon". More a case of Apple not wanting people to set their expectations based on conjectural renderings probably.

Kasper probably lied about the C&D ;) Although he has been good lately (or is it in the past?) about getting rumors.

I did see an e-mail that looked pretty official, from Apple, addressed to him/.com. I believe the C&D in that situation, even though the pics weren't accurate.

Well, my point was not that the pictures or renderings have to be "accurate" to warrant a C&D... but rather those are the things Apple is most sensitive to, whether accurate or not. At least it seems that way. I don't keep up with the rumors nearly as much as I used to, so it could be I'm missing something.

What's that line, I wonder?

Could I receive a C&D? Or that Applele guy? Or does it have to be tied to a published story, for public consumption? Me doing that drawing for Kasper last week (the supposed new G5 internals)...could I be in Apple's crosshairs? Think there's a memo somewhere at Infinite Loop with my name mentioned?

I can only hope!

That's what I would think too. But the renderings (however good they were) weren't accurate. So I would think that they got the C&D just to tell them to stop spreading crap around.

Paul: I think it would have to be published on a site of decent size and traffic before Apple would even notice or care, but sure... you could be next. Everyone needs a claim to fame.

Yeah...and they HAVE been!

But you're right...I need a claim to fame. :D

I realize your renderings have been (obviously) I was just answering the general comment of whether all such posted images would automatically incur the wrath of Apple Legal.

All right I'm tired of waiting for these new ACDs. My CRT is starting to make annoying buzzing / humming noises, takes up entirely too much space on my desk, and makes my eyes tired.

Bring 'em on Apple! Go ahead drop those prices by a couple hundred bucks or more and see what happens; I dare ya....

I always thought that Apple's C&D letters actually came from lawyers at Arendt Fox, the outside counsel that Apple uses for intellectual property matters. At least that was the case a few years ago.

PS: Less than 24 hours (20.5 hours) until new displays at WWDC. ;)
