Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knows where I could look for a used ibook in Canada...I'm not a fan of ebay, but its looking more and more like that's the only place to go...
I was thinking about getting a revised eMac (the one's that are rumored for April) and then a used 12" ibook, looking to spend along the lines of $800 Canadian, 15 gig or up HD, More than 256 megs of ram, good condition) That way I can have a decent home system, but still remain portable (the only real thing the 12 would be used for it word editing, backing up papers, etc, maybe the occasional movie and web surfing). Anyways, thanks for reading!
Try looking at an online classified forum. Here are some:
MacNN (http://forums.macnn.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=59)
MacRumors (http://forums.macrumors.com/forumdisplay.php?f=14)
Ars Technica (http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/ubb.x/a/frm/f/57909216)

I find many online classifieds to be really good communities. You always have to be careful, and make sure you find someone willing to ship to Canada, but it should be a much nicer experience than eBay. By the way, if you decide to go the classifieds route, you should register a Heatware account at www.heatware.com.
Of look at the used computer retailers like:
PowerMax (http://www.powermax.com/)
Mac of all Trades (http://www.macofalltrades.com/)
Before you buy anything, though, run the deal by us first. PowerMax especially likes to charge way too much for anything above stock. Their plain CD-ROM iBooks with 128 MB of RAM and no Airport may be okay deals, but add a Combo drive or a little extra RAM and the price shoots to within a few dollars of the brand new models, for a far slower and less capable machine.

Yeah, I was planning to run everything through you guys first...I don't think I'll go through those sites, because I always get raped with tax and duty when it comes across the border...I'm going to Ontario for the summer, so I might try and find a few places in Toronto that sell used ones. Basically, I was looking for roughly the following
G3 or G4 800
12 inch screen
combo drive
20 gig or higher
over 256 MB (640 ideally)
And I'm willing to spend around $800 cdn (after taxes on it)
I may post some ebay auctions I'm interested in later on and see what you guys think. Thanks for the awesome imput and support :-)
You may want to try Carbon Computing in Toronto. I think my uncle bought his Mac (new one) from there. Their site says to call for prices on used 'Books.

Dealmac.comDealmac.com (http://www.dealmac.com) is where my friend's parents get their macs. They recently bough two used Powermac G5's, and they LOVE THEM! So give that site a shot.

Have you looked at smalldog.com? They usually have good deals on used, refurbished stuff.

I'm checking out all those sites now, thanks a lot guys! MCQ-I emailed them, And I'm going to call them this week. I'm definitly going to stop in there when I'm in toronto sometime this summer. I can't really buy from an American site however, as its just not worth it after conversion + duty + taxes. Thanks for the suggestions though!
