If I have already indexed my drive for searching with Sherlock will Spotlight use that information to update itself during the upgrade?
Or will it index the hard drive from scratch?
My system isn't the fastest around and indexing for 6 hours during or just after the install is just nasty !
I'm hoping that indexing with Sherlock NOW will speed up teh indexing process when I update to Tiger.
Any thoughts???
I'm with Ast3r3x, assuming that Spotlight will not import or use Sherlock's index. My guess is that it will still create its own.

Two geniuses in agreement ;)
I say no because Spotlight has to go through and reindex everything in more depth anyways, so it wouldn't be a big time saver.
Spotlight uses a lot more information than Sherlock does, so no, your Sherlock index won't be of much help at all.
I also don't see what you're complaining about; you can just have it index overnight, or limit Spotlight to certain important directories.
It also does it in the background (and I doubt as conspicuously as Sherlock used to) so there's nothing to be worried about. Frankly I wouldn't want a new feature like Spotlight, that uses a brand new search algorithm, to use anything from Sherlock.
Uhm, Panther's index has nothing to do with Sherlock?!?
Anyway, Spotlight indexing doesn't take too long.
New builds of Tiger's spotlight index took under an hour to index my 80gb internal and 120gb external drive. This is amazingly shorter than it took when I checked out the dev build of tiger from WWDC.
