For Apple, the announcement from Nokia comes just a week after the computer maker said it would put the software underpinning Safari into the public domain. The two companies said the new mobile browser would be available starting early next year on most Series 60 smartphones and said it would enable wireless carriers to offer more robust services to their customers.

I don't own a mobile/cell phone, but I would presume this could be of interest to many out there. ;)

Didn't know the best place to post this thread - mods feel free to move it if Spec and Rumors is incorrect.

Since it's not so much "speculation" since it has been directly confirmed by the companies in question and since it's simply WebKit, something that we all have access to, I'm moving this to General Discussion.

Ooh, could this lead to phones that look like iPods, with an ipod-like OS? :D

The intent seems important than the detail - given how hard M$ are pushing re mobiles, this has to be welcome. And Nokia have suffered too of late so they need a hand. Just one more step towards convergence ;)

Any chance of making mobile Safari UI independent? :D

I have a tmobile device and itd be cool if I could run it on that device. :p
