I'm not big on games - but my friends have introduced me to this one and I love it. I don't know that much about RockStar Games (the publishers/producers?), but will it ever make it to the Mac OS X platform?

Any comments or insight gratefully rec'd. :)

It is a bit odd the GTA series hasn't made it over to the Mac. Ridiculously popular (and ridiculously fun); it's almost a sure thing to be success on the Mac...

Any got any inside scoop on why this never happened? I suppose it being a console game first and foremost, it may have been overlooked...

I have been wondering this for a while to. Although I'm not a gamer, I really enjoy GTA 3. But the lack of a Mac compatible version of it has hindered my ability to play it a lot. Long story short, I'd love to see a Mac version of the GTA series.

i doubt it will, since its already like a 5 year old game. if they couldn't find the time yet, i doubt they'll do it now. vice city rools though. i bought a ps2 back around xmas, and only had that one game for months (well, not including prince of persia, which was too easy). it was more than worth it. only recently did i actually finish the story line. and i'm still only at like 50 or 60% overall completion. best gaim evar.

Didn't GTA:VC just come put for PC about a year ago? And GTA: San Andreas is coming out quite soon... So it's far less than 5 yrs old, and it's not too late for the latest entry in thr GTA series at all.

Seems like this a question best sent to RockStar, Aspyr, or MacPlay.

I probably wouldn't hold my breath on it, but Westlake still has two projects that have not been revealed yet outside of the project names... "Liver" and "Onions".

While it's hard to say what these are and how they are connected, if you consider the fact that Westlake performed the Mac port of "Max Payne", it doesn't seem quite so far out of the realm of possibility that these projects could be GTA 3 and GTA: Vice City.

I'll be surprised if it turns out I'm right, but it's hard to look at "Liver & Onions" along with Westlake's previous offerings and not come to the conclusion of GTA/GTA: Vice City.

If GTA comes out on Mac, my powerbook will be happy and will finally do something cpu intensive. With the porting GTA, it will help my decision of me getting an Xbox2 or PS3.

So Bones - who are Westlake? Do they deal exclusively with porting stuff to the Mac?

I'd be one happy camper if GTA: Vice City came to OS X! :D

Sorry about the delay on replying... :p

You can visit Westlake's website here (http://www.westlakeinteractive.com/). If you check out their project status (http://www.westlakeinteractive.com/projectstat.html) page, both Liver and Onions are now at final candidate stage, which could mean an announcement wll soon be made, and may also suggest a late summer/early fall release.

yes, my friend. exaggeration is the name of the game. i was thinking about gta:sa, and i was gonna say that they'd more likely come out with that one than vc. but then i remembered that we're talkign about mac games, and they are required by law to come out months and years after the 'riginals. maybe they will do vc for mac. :\

No.

No.
And I don't expect any word. How many serious gamers are out there that have a Mac but don't have a PS2, XBox, or PC? I think about 14. And that's not enough to port the game for. :D

Exactly. In fact, this thread has been around for too long (nearly a year, with several revivals). If Rockstar decides to port GTA (which they won't), I will reopen this thread or let someone make a new one. Until then, this thread is useless.
