I just bought a new G5; it's in FedEx as we speak.
What would you add to your shiny new Apple PowerMac G5 first...name what peripheral, PCI card, or component that would be purchased with or come just shortly after your new baby us unpacked?
(except the obvious, like iPod, Printer, or a Digicam).

A Wacom Tablet
I've heard it doesn't come with a monitor. You might need one of those... :D
A better keyboard. The white one that comes with the G5 is really uncomfortable. I prefer the Ice keyboard.

Darn, I didn't think about comfort---though anything is probably better than my iBook's keyboard and the old iMac 333 (it has a broken spacebar).
Are Apple's bluetooth keyboard and mouse worth the $69?
No. Not at all. Not even CLOSE. You're trying to get AWAY from the G5's included keyboard and mouse. The Apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse are both the exact same as the one included with the G5, just wireless. I would highly recommend getting at least an Apple Pro Keyboard, which is what Apple used to include with their systems. If you want something a little nicer, look into a Logitech or Microsoft keyboard. I have the Logitech Cordless Elite Duo, which is really really good, but I'd also recommend the corded Logitech Elite keyboard. The mouse that comes with the Cordless Elite Duo, the MX700, is pretty nice and has a lot of buttons, but I think the Kensington Pilot Mouse is better.
So I'd say get either the cordless elite set, or buy the keyboard and mouse separately, and go with good brands like Kensington, Logitech, or Microsoft. Contrary to popular belief, MS is actually good at making keyboards and mice. They just suck at everything else ;).
Apple doesn't include its Pro keyboard with the G5? How much more Pro does a system need to be before it can have a good keyboard?

If you've got the money to spend, there's also the Matias Tactile Pro Keyboard (http://www.halfkeyboard.com/tactilepro/index.php). I've only heard good things about it.

it is indeed a bit uncomfortable, but it's been REALLY handy in our Warcraft 3 tournaments at my friend's house, because it's small enough to fit on the already full desk we use.
But yeah, the old Pro keyboard was an amazingly great design, Ludwig linked to the replica model, which I hear is just as good. I wish someone would make a pro keyboard replica, in black, with backlit keys. THAT would be sweeeeet.

Yup, I got one recently, and it is not bad, not bad at all. I'm still getting used to the feel of the keys... but I think it's a winner.
Barto pointed out a nice looking keyboard in this thread (http://forums.applenova.com/showthread.php?t=423), which you might like to check out.

I like the feel of them too, but they all seem to wobble...on all surfaces. I've bought 3 to date and returned all three. They all wobbled. Maybe I just got bad ones.
RAM.
Gobs and gobs of RAM.
1 GB minimum.
And - Canon i860 or i960 for a printer, definitely.
