Me too! My goal behind this purchase is to make it so the only thing to blame for deficiencies in my tracks will be me. The gear is capable... am I? :) It's going to take a little getting used to, since I'm really accustomed to recording ON MY BED with a $5 radioshack adaptor! But... I think it's a decent trade ha.

Next thing to get is Logic Pro 7...

Robot Express... btw, is the name of this new recording project. :)

I can't make out the headphones in the picture. Which ones are you using?

This is most annoying... I did a direct transfer of all my files from the powerbook to the iMac in hopes that I wouldn't need to reinstall any jampacks(since I don't have all the discs with me) That did not work. But, I tried transferring the instruments and loops manually, and that did work... but... I updated GB and now it seems to have forgotten that it has all the jampack loops on the iMac... I'm sure I can get to the bottom of this relatively painlessly, but it is an annoying snag. I do intend on getting Logic, but GB is still my sketch pad, and I need all the instruments to use it how I want to use it.

bonk.

What's more, a quick search(wow spotlight is incredible!) reveals that I somehow have 3 copies of many of the loops for some of the jampacks. WTF? So the loops are all there, the instruments are all there, but GB isn't recognizing them... :\

Have you tried reindexing your loops in GarageBand? I had a similar problem on my PowerBook when I upgraded to Tiger through an Archive and Install install...

Awesome set-up, Wrao!

Very nice. Enjoy.

I'm finding myself being pulled back into music, after a several year lay-off.

Let me ask you something: what do you think about Line 6's stuff? Do you have any, or have used anything of theirs? You can PM or e-mail me if you'd rather so we don't hi-jack this thread with music geek stuff.

:)

Just seeking out some opinions from folks I know who play...

BTW, you got the same model as my friend in town did, AND that my buddy in Texas has decided on (after several months of considering the iBook).

That 17" SuperDrive model is popular...all the power and features of the big 20", but a bit more affordable and "in the sweet spot", price-wise.

Yea. it totally is a sweet spot on the line up. I wanted the 20" for a while, but then I was like... well 17" is still a step up from what I have now, and it's $400 cheaper! I don't regret it at all. the 17" is also a lot easier to move around and such.

Sweet dude. I used to own the Firepod. Ended up returning it for a Motu 896 HD, but I was very impressed with the Firepod. Hope it all works great for ya!

Very cool Wrao

Your recording set up is similar to mine, but I'm still stuck with just my powerbook.

Hopefully I will add an iMac to the set up in the near future.

I used to have that exact same desk.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to reorganize my room so that I can use the piano more efficiently. All this stuff is making my head spin, I've spent hours and hours and hours since getting this iMac setup just playing around with songs I've already made, tweaking them up and stuff.

It's interesting, when I was just using $20 headphones and a $5 radioshack adaptor to record in Garageband, I never really had any qualms with GB, but now that I have all this fancy stuff, I'm really feeling the limits both quality wise and production wise of GB. Ah well, I'll get Logic soon enough.

I'm absolutely loving this setup though, I still spend a large amount of my time on the powerbook, but whenever I get a burst of creative energy, I can sit down and within a couple seconds have everything ready to record. Of course, as soon as I sit down I usually end up playing around for hours, I need to get a real chair my back hurts.

I'd be interested in hearing what you're doing with that setup res, if you wouldn't mind sharing.

It has been awhile since I've done anything musical and it is calling to me once again. I just finished getting my home studio put together last week, and so far I've been mostly trying to figure out how to use logic pro. Although years ago I used to have a sweet little 16 track analog set up, all of this digital recording is new to me, so I expect it will take me a little while to get comfortable with it.

Yea I've been playing around with the logic express demo, already that's pretty over my head, but I am starting to figure out how to do all the basics at least. I plan on getting logic pro 7 eventually, For now GB is going to have to suffice. heh.
