It makes perfect sense. TVs are a known variable, capacitive touchscreen tablets were not when iPad came out. TVs are a well established market, and TVs are widely known to have thin margins. Samsung and LG charge between $3k and $4k for a 65" TV; there's no way Apple could beat that since an Apple television would be the exact same television with a $99 tv built in.
---End Quote---
The same can be said for macs. The same can be said for phones. The same could be said for MP3 players. Apple is doing fine. Apple is able to make a cheaper "ultra book" than anyone, to the point where manufacturers are begging Intel to subsidize their products to compete.

Samsung and LG are building in their own "Apple TV" these days into their Smart TVs.

You are also failing to appreciate the added value an Apple produced TV might carry. This is no different than any other Apple market. The others are in a race to the bottom. Apple is happy to take the cream of the crop. How do you think Dell is doing these days? I guess 4-5 years ago you would have said Apple could NEVER compete with Dell. Why sell computers? I'd hate to see what you would have said about Apple vs. Dell 12 years ago. Apple should have left the computer business! No way to compete on such a low margin, highly competitive, established, product!

36 million iPhones is a drop in the bucket. 36 million iPhones is statistically insignificant compared to the seven billion people living on this little blue marble. There are still tons of people who think you can't get a decent Mac for under two thousand. iPhone is this weird aberration that everyone knows about because you can buy them from carriers, but most iPhone owners have never set foot in an Apple Store, and most iPhone owners own no other Apple products. The "Apple is expensive" stereotype is thriving; I still have the "you can get a MacBook Pro for $1,199" conversation with family friends and friends of friends on a regular basis.
---End Quote---
You're in denial for the sake of your argument. Over half of Americans have some sort of Apple product today (http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/29/tech/gaming-gadgets/household-apple-products/index.html

Sure, count the entire world population, count everyone over the age of 70 and everyone below the age of 15 and everyone in third world countries, etc.....

Apple is the most adored company in the world, the strongest brand, the biggest market cap, the biggest selling, etc (tops in almost every category).

WWDC 2012 Speculation Thread

---Quote (Originally by Kraetos)---
There hasn't been hardware at WWDC for two years. There hasn't been hardware other than iPhone at WWDC for five. Last year, Apple released new Mac minis and MacBook Airs a mere month after WWDC, so it seems like Apple is trying to remove hardware from WWDC entirely.
---End Quote---
There is no pattern there. There is no basis for stating one way or the other. If Apple has a new line of MacBooks ready to go, they will announce it. Everyone loves hardware.

A "mere" month? A month is a long time to pre announce a computer update. You want Apple to kill their laptop sales for a month? If they were announced a month after WWDC I'm guessing they were not ready a month earlier at WWDC.

Pretty simple. Apple announces when it is convenient from them. There is no set in stone rule about hardware announcements at WWDC. It's like people last year arguing that the iPhone would NEVER be released in October. Apple doesn't care what they have done previously or have set patterns.

---Quote---
The fact that there are more Apple rumors flying around these days would support my "more bullshit" assertion, not your "lips are getting looser" assertion. The amount of info we've been able to glean directly from Apple hasn't changed much in ten years, but each year it gets tougher and tougher to wade through the bullshit. You seem to be taking the bullshit as gospel, but we don't know if it's bullshit or actual secrets until Apple opens their yap.

You can't argue Apple's lips are getting looser just because more people like to talk about Apple. I can't recall any uptick—we knew about the Intel switch ahead of time, but only by a few weeks, and that was in 2005. It seems to be pretty much the same today. Apple can keep it a secret until were within a month or so, and then it leaks, either intentionally or unintentionally. This hasn't really changed much in recent memory.
---End Quote---
huh? Are you not reading what I write? Sure, there is a lot more bullshit now. That's what happens when you can't really keep your supply chain a secret anymore because there are so many hands involved and so much money and the lead time is so great on a new product release.

What I said, was 3 specific sources, who are very reputable, and have consistently been used as news outlets for Apple, have been sharing a whole lot more information lately, especially this past week. Apple uses these outlets, especially the WSJ, to control expectations. They have done that more and more over the past 2-3 years, much more so than ever.

And as chucker said, outside of Mountain Lion, there have not been a whole lot of surprises in a while. There was a lot of bullshit around the iPhone 4S, but everything about it had been leaked if you were able to decipher what was accurate and what was not. Typically, if the NYTimes or WSJ or Bloomberg write something, it's pretty much accurate from Apple.

and even with Mountain Lion, Apple gave limited press a preview the week before, and Schiller even hinted to John Gruber at his meeting, that Apple was "handling things a little different" now.
