Hmmm. Is that because Apple charges so much up front for the iPhone compared with other manufacturers? I'd like to know more of the mechanics of smart phone marketing, because it all seems quite mysterious to me. I suppose that given Apple's unique position, there are really (at least) two separate markets at the 'wholesale' level - Apple and then everyone else (with maybe Blackberry and Nokia/Windows being distinguished somewhat within the 'everyone else' category).

It is interesting to speculate on how this is all going to play out in the long run.
