As you all are aware of by now, Verizon is forcing all new smartphone upgrades into tiered data plans, unless you buy a phone outright. I'm in a unique situation where I have an open line available to purchase new equipment from Verizon, I also have my New Every 2 discount of $50 available to me for one more time and final time, might I add, and finally, I also have a buy back on my current equipment (iPhone 4) totaling $225.
The way that I look at it, I have a couple of different options. One, get the 4s and locked into another two year contract, keeping my unlimited data. I can get a subsidized phone, by the way, as long as I re-up before June 28. For me this would basically be a trade off of selling back my phone and getting a new iPhone 4S along with the NE2 discount I will be receiving. The second option is to get the Samsung Galaxy 3 or another Android Phone and sell it later waiting for the next generation iPhone. There is no guarantee of what is to come or when it will come or the ability to sell it for a reasonable price. I am taking a huge guess on this one, but the next gen. iPhone will probably have 4G LTE technology built in. I'd have to buy the phone outright at this point in time, but I would make some money buying an Android phone now and reselling it, thus keeping my unlimited data and still using the NE2. The third option is jump ship and go prepaid on Virgin Mobile or something of that nature. I'm not sure abut their network speeds or how they do at all. This would be a crapshoot and I wouldn't want to not be able to use my phone because of piss pour network coverage. The last thing is to do nothing at all. I would lose value on the buy back program that my phone is enrolled in. I would also lose the NE2. Anyways, sorry for the lengthy post. I just want to do what is seemingly best for our situation. I guess what I am asking is what would you do in this situation? I'm not a data hog, but for me it is peace of mind about not having to check it or look at it to make sure that I am not coming close to the threshold of crossing the bandwidth that I'm using. I welcome any and all advice. I have to make a decision before June 28 and I want to be as informed as possible. |
