Now that SSD's are more common, I wondered how many people on here leave their computer on with just the display going to sleep after a time?
Is this wise to do or could this still shorten the lifespan of the machine? I'm thinking more about those people who need to connect remotely. Kind Regards The irony of the Information Age is that it has given new respectability to uninformed opinion. |

I don't think it's going to hurt to leave it on and just have the screen sleeping though, or just have it set to wake on network access if you want remote users accessing it.
The brand new machines though can sync/backup etc. while sleeping too, which won't hurt. That being said, all of my laptops just have the display go to sleep and leave the machine on. Most don't go to sleep or get turned off for days, sometimes weeks on end. Never gives them pause. Google is your friend. I would just let my computer sleep like normal and use WoL if I need to access it remotely...
