Last month, Microsoft announced plans to offer its own anti-virus and security updates for home computers, called Windows OneCare.

The service would be on a yearly subscription basis, just like other anti-virus protection services.
So we have to pay for your inability to write a secure OS, Bill? Riiiggghht.

Wait a minute... this is like building a house with a hole in the roof, then renting the buyer a tarp to cover the hole.

Microsoft = Suck-tacular!

Analogy of the month?

Thank you, Brad. It didn't take me very long to think up... I considered making it a car instead of a house, but I thought that some smartass would say "but what about convertibles?".

Always glad to analogize. (somehow, that sounds wrong...)

You ask me for a hamburger.

What can I say? It was a good analogy.

And image fixed.

Salesguy: "Hum, okay, looks like a lump of cr@p to me Bill"
Bill: "No way, believe me I copied this off a couple of tech guys and, well I reckon I can make a fortune with this sh1t..."
Salesguy: "Okay I'll give it a whirl"

Sometime later

Salesguy: "Lord Gates, may I have moment"
LG: "Come forth my dear man...."
Salesguy: "you know that lump of cr@p we sold that millions of folk bought..."
LG: "huh huh"
Salesguy: "They all just worked out we sold them a lump of crap"
LG: "Wonderful my dear man sell everyone of them a bag of sugar, tell them how sweet that cr@p tastes now and ask them to say thank you too !!!!!"

Am I the only one who thinks that they should have run out of holes to patch already? With tens of thousands of viruses and spyware and all that available on Windows...you think they'd catch it all eventually.

It's shocking and truly appalling that years after windows XP was released they're still finding "gaping holes" or "astronomical flaws".

Come waste your time with me

I'm beginning to wonder if the thing is actually made of bugs and security holes.

Or even worse: Microsoft has so much market share, they can get away with "planting" security holes in their OS, while not hurting sales much. Of course, they get huge commissions from Anti-Virus, malware, etc. companies to do so.

In other words, they knock holes in the roof to make the tarp companies rich.

You ask me for a hamburger.

But now, they've decided to go into the Tarp business themselves as well. You should at least get a years sub free if you buy the OS, but I bet you don't...

I felt like doing an anti-Microshaft logo just for this thread.

Linkey

Tell me how you like it.

Edit: changed the image to a link, don't want to be an attention whore.

Very nice logo. Not only do you have "holes" in the logo, it also looks like a swastika.

It implies that Microsoft are only interested in dollars...geddit? No, it's not a great joke, but it is a joke, nonetheless

It's actually so widespread, many people do it without thinking nowadays.

Re: the Final Solution...I thought it was about windows having holes in them...and then I stepped back a bit....crikey!

I was waiting for Jon to actually invoke Godwin...
maybe the writers figured the reference was too obscure.

MS may not be into genocide, but i think with their monopoly and business practices you could say they are into OS-cide or OS Cleansing

I was too. I know that technically it refers specifically to Internet forums, but I was disappointed that he didn't mention it.
