I've been increasingly agitated about the wait times for getting DVD's in my queue lately (the past couple of months). I'm wondering if it's just me, or is Netflix starting to decline in service.

I always questioned Netflix's long term viability. Just always seemed to me that if DVDs are selling at a higher price than their monthly fees that it seemed on the long run an ill conceived process. Though I suppose a better way of thinking of it is that you pay 18 dollars to own three DVDs effectively making it quite profitable.

Still I guess like they say, the happier of a customer, the worse netflix does. If during economic downturns, it seems that those that don't cut netflix will find more time to use it (either because of loss of job, expense of going out or just trying to rationalize the cost even more than normal). All the aforementiooned examples would lead to a decline in quality of service if netflix doesn't expand, which I doubt they would since those same examples do not have a correlating increase in revenues.

Netflix happens to be one of the highest performing stocks around right now, precisely because people are not going out as much. I'm sure that has something to do with the slowdown in turnaround time. Most of the movies in my queue now are Long wait or Very Long Wait, and the ones that say Short Wait are pretty much mislabeled, because they are taking 2-3 weeks. Netflix needs to address this, or their "brand" is going to suffer.

Interestingly, this was the same experience I had with them about 10 years ago or so when I started Netflix. I thought it was a great idea, but at the time they just didn't execute it properly, so I dropped the service, and for several years just went to Blockbuster (brick and mortar). Then about 5 years ago I decided to give Netflix another shot, and it was clear they had fixed their problems. But in the last few months, I've become tempted to drop it again.

The only thing keeping me going is the "Watch Instantly" feature through my Roku player - which, by the way, will now let me download Amazon movies. However, those are $3.99, and the quality is slightly worse than DVD (probably a lot worse, but my eyes are not so great anymore, so I don't care).

No problems here. Customer for over a year. Usually it goes like this for me:

Monday: I mail out the DVDs I got last week.
Tuesday: DVDs arrive at sorting facility and new ones are mailed out.
Wednesday: I have new DVDs in my hand.

Sometimes, I can even pull this off:

Monday: I mail out the DVDs I got last week.
Tuesday: DVDs arrive at sorting facility and new ones are mailed out.
Wednesday: I have new DVDs in my hand.
Thursday: I mail out the DVDs I just got.
Friday: DVDs arrive at sorting facility and new ones are mailed out.
Saturday: I have new DVDs in my hand.

Two sets of DVDs in a single week! It's always a same-day turnaround from arriving at their facility to getting back in the mail to me.

Granted, occasionally the latest-and-greatest new hot DVD will be wait-listed for a bit, but that makes sense. I've had to wait for some new releases, but I've also managed to get some new releases pretty quickly. Luck of the draw, I suppose.

Can we have a poll option for those that don't have any mail order media service?

I never really did look at netflix in terms of a stock, but looking at its charts, it looks pretty healthy regardless of the economic turmoil. Sure as hell would rather invest in them than Walmart, the other darling of an economy in recession.

I streamed my first Amazon movie on my Roku player ("Zack and Miri Make a Porno"). It's really convenient, and the quality is not too bad. I see it as a good supplement to my Netflix membership.

I live in MA yet quite a few discs have been coming in from PA and IL. I used to receive my discs from Worcester, MA but now they make their way from Hartford, CT. I returned a disc last Friday but still no return confirmation e-mail.
Twice they have sent me the very same disc I returned.

It's totally worth it for $99. I just wish my internet access was even faster, so I could get HD streaming. One day...

You don't like the Netflix streaming, or don't use it?

I've found it's almost replaced the physical DVD's at this point. I like watching classics as much as new releases, and the instant on ability of the downloading ones just put them way in front.

I use both. However, Netflix does not stream the new releases - at least, not the "big" ones.

It's been fine for me lately. They have been known to throttle if you're a high volume user. I use to be in the early days, but these days I probably only turn over about 3 disc's a week at most. New releases are taking a bit longer to get if I miss the timing of sending my disc's back on Saturday and get on the waiting list. But it's not a big deal for me.

Along with streaming on my 360 I've probably never been happier with Netflix and I've been using them since 2003 or 2004 I think.

I just switched from Blockbuster to Netflix. Blockbuster was being too slow. Unlike Brad's scenario, for me, Blockbuster seems to get the movies I ship to them 1-2 days after I send them, and then I get the next one 1-2 days after that. So I often end up with only one movie a week. Hopefully Netflix will be better. Plus I'm going to give Netflix's streaming another chance. Last I checked their streaming selection was pretty bad though.

it takes over a week to mail a disk here. though I am on a college campus so I guess I add 3 days to any mail shipment... still.... too long for my liking. if it weren't for the streaming thing, I would have cancelled.

^^ One more quality post from the desk of Ebby. ^^

I started using Roku recently and find it to be amazing. $99 plus $9 a month (for the Netflix subscription) is a great a bargain, and the quality is fine. I also like the control one has, the fast forward, reverse, pause, resume later, etc.
