Hello. I think I'm screwed, but here goes:

My Mac: I still have a G5 that I use everyday. Excellent machine - runs smoothly. Almost 10 years old.

My iPhone: got a 3GS when they came out 3 years ago or so. Just was able to update today to iOS6.

My iTunes: 10.6.1 says it will no longer recognize my iPhone with the new update. My iTunes needs to be updated. I goto Software Update under iTunes, and it says it's up to date. So, I would assume I have the most up to date version of iTunes allowed for my G5.

My upcoming problem: I just ordered the new iPhone 5 a few days ago. Still waiting to get it, obviously. Will I not be able to sync my brand new iPhone into my computer? Am I forced into buying a new computer??

Any feedback would be beneficial.

** Also, I am attempting to backup my current iPhone to the cloud. How do I go about putting the current stuff on my new iPhone? Do I reinstall from iCloud? Do I take current sim card and stick it in the new phone, and sell the old phone without a sim card?

iTunes 10.7 does indeed require an Intel Mac, according to this support page.

Pretty much, if you do need to sync with your computer. You can use iOS 5 and newer without iTunes sync, so it depends on what sort of data you'd like to exchange.

If the old iPhone runs 5.0 or newer, you can backup to iCloud, then restore onto the new one.
