Seems like the product deserves a thread. As soon as I get the store to load, I'll be ordering a 16GB White 4G model.

My 32GB WiFi+3G iPad 2 will be going to a new home as soon as I get the new one in hand...though this assumes, of course, that any of us get to ever actually order one.

I'm thinking of snagging either a black 16GB +4G or a black 32GB version. I have a 3G iPad 2 but only used the online access part for two months. I just like the included GPS I guess.

Looks like a nice update, and it pushed the price of the iPad 2 into a range that will open it up to more people.

Now I have to decide if I want to go for the new iPad or the iPad2 to save some cash (and have a lighter tablet).

I am surprised they kept the iPad 2 WiFi+3G model. I only expected the WiFi only model to stick around. And it is nice they kept the storage at 16 GB.

They never announce that sort of thing. I imagine 512 or 1024

We won't know until those iFixit(?) guys get their hands on one and tear it apart. But I bet it's 1GB.

The pre-order step 3 doesn't load in Chrome. I keep getting 1.1 errors in Safari after picking my cover...

I got to my cart and it said I had 3. I removed one and hit "Continue Shopping" rather than "checkout". I got a 1.1 error and I haven't been able to get back on since...

I just saw the Apple Store's error page for the first time ever. Think it's gonna be popular?

I think it's a great set of updates. And it's still thinner and lighter than my first-gen model!

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong

Just received my confirmation email, almost an hour after placing my order. The servers must be swamped. Good luck everyone!

I get where I am supposed to select it and select the model and nothing happens. I would expect it to ask me the number (1 of 2) then allow me to go to cart but it doesn't.

Now that I got a job, I can buy more Apple products!

I'm getting one, not sure which. Too bad that the iPhoto app limits you to 19MP files I'm sure they'll fix it in a later revision.

I can't help but think Steve would have throttled somebody for calling it "The New iPad". There's a reason you use numbers in your naming scheme. It's a terrible, terrible name. A year from now is it going to be "the new iPad 2"? Or "The new new iPad"? And then what will this one be, "The Old New iPad"?

Honestly I had hoped the Apple folks sans Jobs were competent enough to avoid this kind of ridiculousness. I was wrong! The iPad itself looks awesome. The name is just terrible.

Great. Now I have to go pick up my kids. It'll probably be several hours before I can try again. So much for pre-ordering.

edit: Success!!!! 64 gig White 4G. That was pricey. Oops.

Its just a place holder on the website to differentiate it from the iPad 2. If you place an order it comes up as "iPad (Generation 3)".

Do you just have to keep refreshing and hope it works eventually? Damn, I really want to place an order.

Yeah, the official name is just "iPad" (like the iPad "1" was).

As for the "new new," "old new" stuff...

Yeah, so they come off as idiots, but Steve still let the "new new" stuff into the final video.

It took quite a few tries to get my black 32GB wifi order to go through, but I have an order number!

I got the farthest when I went to www.apple.com/ipad then hit the preorder button on the top right of the page.

My view is that it is better to move away from number designations for new versions of the same products. Who cares if it is 3, 3S, 4, 4S or 5 really? Does Apple always have to play the name game of new number designations? Where does it stop - the Apple "iPad 12Y"? It is the current IPad release - that is enough and that will always be enough, even when Apple updates the new model. There will be no "Old New iPad", no "New iPad 2", just the "iPad", pure and simple.

In that respect, it will be more like their computer releases. There is no MacBook Pro 3, 4 or 5, for example. There is just the MacBook Pro (with different models sub-designated by release date for those that want to distinguish them for the purpose of discussion, but not noted in the product name itself).

Anyone know where iPhoto is? I'm still not seeing it. Did I miss something in the keynote? Isn't it available today? I've already snagged iOS 5.1 a couple of hours ago, along with updates to about 7-8 of my existing Apple apps (a bunch came down, I guess for Retina Display support and various tweaks and updates in GarageBand, iMovie and Pages).
