The resurrection of the soda vs. pop thread has caused me to recall another age old naming debate: beer pong vs. beirut.
I am aware of the fact that some people consider beer pong to be a game involving paddles, but in this case, I am only referring to the game we all know and love. Personally, I call it beer pong. In NY, that seems to be the consensus. However, in MA my hometown friends like to call it beirut and laugh at me when I refer to it as beer pong. That is, until I kick their asses several times in a row, and they become too drunk to argue. But what do you call it? [EDIT] Aww raspberries, I meant to add a poll. Can one of the admins add one for me? Logic, logic, logic. Logic is the beginning of wisdom, Valeris, not the end. |

At college we used to use the two phrases interchangeably. Personally I prefer beirut.

I would've loved to play this game in college (I would've seriously kicked ass as I've got the finessin' skills), but apparently it had not yet been invented. All we played was quarters and bullshit. Here is M. Night Shyamalan reffing a game in his youth!
Check out the wiki entry. It's practically endless and very professional looking. The fact that the beerpong entry looks like a thesis and more serious topics look fragmented and half-baked says a little something about our culture. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_pong ...into the light of a dark black night. |

People who call it Beirut are pretentious. We all know it's called good old beer pong.

I've always called it Beer Pong, but a friend of mine used to play 'beer pong' with actual paddles while 'beirut' was played just with tosses, thus accounting for a difference(there were also slightly different rules pertaining to bounce plays and the likes)

I thot they was two similar but distinct games. Someone mentions one, someone else mentions the other, and we end up playing pool anyway.

I've played beer pong many times, but never even heard of beirut. Sounds really pretentious for such a stupid game. I'm with ya MB.
