Taking game down for a few. Should be too long. I'll post when I'm done.

Edit: And we are back up and pruned.

ha
wait
that might have been it.

It happened right after I was shot by a skellie... and my armor, its maxed the 'shit' out. will tone it down if the server ever comes back.

divide by zeroes all over the place. i am sorry, minecraft server, but you've got to expect this from a biophysicist parading around as a chemist.

Server restarted. You froze up java. Had to kill it and server picked right back up.

So weird that we've only recently started seeing these freezes.

It started when the SSD was acting up. I've since updated MC and Java both, but the issue persists. I wonder if the SSD corrupted part of the world and that's continuing to choke up the game from time to time...

fwiw, both bobsky and I had our inventory reset to past-loot after this restart. Plus, I started in a different place. Much like the SSD trauma.

The logs show Java errors that indicate you might have been playing for a while without the server listening:

The server was "running" until I kill -9'd java at 3:51. That would give you plenty of time to play without being able to make progress.

Then I wonder if it's having an issue with the /enchant levels and such we have running around there? Like your armor might actually be too much for the game! You stud.

No, there's a much bigger issue. I don't wear armor and I don't enchant, but the biggest clusterfuck was during my time alone on the server.

Obviously, we need to look at the server.

Now, we're getting the same symptoms as before on the HDD. That can't possibly be good.

BACK THAT SHIT UP BRAD!!!

So it goes.

Not so. The only thing the same is that the Java locked up. Earlier when you were on it was a hardware failure with the SSD/controller. Totally different issues actually.

Why Java is locking up is found in the error. The server was still up so you guys kept playing with your local clients doing their thing until you got dropped/quit. I was able to log into the MC server and issue a stop command but it ignored me. Killing the Java process caused the MC server to restart as expected.

To know it isn't an issue with the current world we could restore a backup from before the SSD/controller failure and see if it persists. The server HW otherwise is fine though. Rest easy on that. Also, no worries on the backups being backed up. I have copies.

Since no one is on right now I'm taking the server down for some testing. It will be totally offline during this time. My plan is less than an hour, but I'll post here when done.

We are live again. Play away!

Also, the short testing I did shows no issues with the motherboard SATA controller. Also shows no issues with RAM or CPU/logic board functions. Lenny himself has a clean bill of health.

Now I'm about to bench the SSD with the IcyDock and then if that fails (which I expect it to do) I will then test the SSD by itself.

Something is weird....

There is a good chance the SSD is totally fine! There is a bug in the version of firmware that was in the SSD that would cause it to become unresponsive after 5184 hours or 216 days. See here, second post to the last. It was installed in November, add 216 days:
Resulting date: Saturday, June 30, 2012

How's that for a bug? Anyway, new firmware is on the SSD and it's being hammered by my media center PC. After it passes, now that I'm sure it was a firmware issue, I'll shut down Lenny and we can go back to the SSD.

Wait, what?! How did that make it through QA? I mean, I'm glad it got fixed and all, but still...

And since no one is on now and the tests were great I'm putting the SSD back in now.

Broadcast message from root (pts/1) (Wed Jul 11 21:37:37 2012):

The system is going down for system halt NOW!

Edit: Server is back live though not residing on the SSD. Still on HDD until Brad gets the chance to go in there and make the changes needed. Game is live again though. Less than 10 minutes of down time, not bad.

Definitely Saturday. Yesterday was nutso.

I just reformatted the SSD and rebooted Lenny. I've copied the worlds over to the SSD and gave MC a quick test. I've shut the game down again to update Bukkit, but it'll be back shortly…

Hmmm....

I can't ping google.com from Lenny but I can post? Verizon must be treating me poorly. Lenny is fine BTW.

Edit: this time:
--- google.com ping statistics ---
35 packets transmitted, 32 received, 8% packet loss, time 33999ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 24.114/27.118/29.229/1.103 ms

I'm having issues even logging into Minecraft itself right now. I know there was an authentication server outage this morning - seems they're having even more trouble right about now.

Well, I am having issues here at my house too. Bad packet loss.

Example, I'm posting from my Verizon connection but Dropbox isn't connected.

Gonna reboot my router. Hope that helps.

New IP even! Every thing seems good now.

Edit: OK, not so good. Still in and out. This means it's a Verizon issue. We do have nasty storms all around us right now though.

Well, traceroute shows it's Verizon out upstream from me. I'm heading to bed though. I'm sure the connection will be up fine in a bit.
