After about a month of debating I've decided I'm going to get a iMac (my first Mac computer) To save money I'm going to upgrade the RAM and HD myself. The RAM is a no brainer, but I was wondering about the HD. Will it be as easy as a Windows install? Just boot to the CD and follow the promts?

I want to make sure before I get myself stuck!

I did a google search but suprisingly didn't really find much

And also as a side note. Is there a particular drive manufacturer that Apple users prefer. I've had good luck with Maxtor, Seagate and Western Digital in the Windows world, but wasn't sure if the Apple crowd had a different favorite.

Thanks.

Yup, it should be as simple as plugging in the drive and rebooting from the CD (insert the CD and hold the 'C' key as it boots).

I've seen equal success with each of those brands of drives. They're all pretty good. I've never even seen a Mac choke on a blank drive, though.

Thanks Brad.

What does holding 'C' do when booting?

It boots from the CD.
