A lot of the examples on apples developer site are made with project builder and I can't open them with Xcode. Is there an easy way to do this and I'm just over looking?

I've never run across an example on apple's developer site that doesn't work with Xcode. Some of the really old ones have multiple types of project files included (I assume PB and xcode, but I have only used xcode). Can you post the url of one that you can't get to work?

I've run across others, but specifically these two are ones I was thinking about when posting this. Although I assume the FinderLaunch isn't even relevant anymore with the cocoa finder.

You should be able to open the pbproj (Moriarity.pbproj for example) with xcode. If I remember correctly, a dialog comes up asking if you want to convert it to an xcode project. It has been a long time since I have done this, but I think that is how it worked.

Maybe it is me, or maybe Xcode doesn't open them anymore, but "Moriarity.pbproj" is seen as a directory with a "project.pbxproj" inside, and trying to open that file just opens as a text file.

It's a bit confusing, but it's possible to upgrade the file.
  1. Rename the Moriarity.pbproj folder (not the Moriarity.pbxproj file inside) to Moriarity.xcode, then open it.
  2. Xcode will prompt you to upgrade. Save the results as Moriarity.xcodeproj.
  3. Pick Project -> Upgrade All Targets in Project to Native. Confirm.
