At some point in recent OS X updates Office 2011 ceased to sync with the Mac Addressbook (now simply called "Contacts").

I went on this morning looking for some solution to getting the data to be shared between them.

What I found was a Halloween announcement that there's a NEW version of Outlook for Mac out there.

Has anybody used it?

I wonder if the new Outlook can talk to the Mac Contacts.

This is an in-depth article about what we're now calling "Outlook Mac 15".

Microsoft revamps features for Outlook for Mac 15

This has screenshots and other information.

I'm still reading it, but it appears that it's been dumbed down in some areas.

There's still no way for it to connect to your Mac's Contact list (stored in iCloud) as there's apparently no support for CalDAV and such.

I'm really frustrated.

A big fat FU to Apple and to Microsoft.

Well, the fucking shit turd of "new Outlook" just automatically updated itself and ate a fucking bunch of my fucking email accounts. I have zero idea of what all went missing and have no idea if I can save it or anything. I have an older machine running an older version of the app, so I can go back to visit it from some point in the past and compare contents... just not sure when I'll have the time.

Thank you, idiots.

Thank GOD I was able to revert to the older version within the app.

My old records and all my accounts are back.

It is apparently time to find a different email application.

TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE.

I only use Outlook for work email and that is fine for me. It is an M365 account anyway. Apparently I've been running the "New Outlook" for a while now and no issues for me... but it is just the M365 account so that might be why.

Funny you mention that. I hate that they moved Tasks to the web. I click on the sidebar and it opens a webpage now. Why? Is the API to hard for MS to figure out?

I'm down here wondering if it is even possible to migrate email records from Outlook to another email app such that the attachments remain attached... the "bindings" is what I want to call that?

That's what has me super worried.

But I need to get to shopping PRONTO.

I have really old, treasured communications that I fear will be lost if I don't act soon.

If you use IMAP then it is easy to move to another mail client. If you don't, then configure an IMAP connection with your existing client and migrate everything back to the email server.

On your new client everything will be there.

IMAP is server based.
POP is client based.
Exchange is server based.

All of those can save locally only too.

Does that clear it up for you?
