It was a lazy allusion to the narrow-minded rejection of massive amounts of credible scientific data from a variety of credible sources. But I see what you mean, it's rather disparate in this thread, possibly due to me!

Well, it's totally off-topic for one, and secondly not all peer reviewed science is good science.

You get an ass clown doing the research and his dumb fuck buddies to sign off on it and you're peer reviewed. Politics plays more of a role in getting your science published than the quality of the science.

I worked in the research field too long to believe that peer reviewed = good, or that today's certainty won't be tomorrow's disillusionment.

Wait...

Are you suggesting we squeeze all the air out of smokers and non-smokers and second-hand smokers, and put them in a fridge or on the counter side-by-side or on their sides, and measure who stays fresher?

That might be an interesting study.

But who's running the taste test?

And do they all go Fssssssssssst when you twist them?

All those who believe in telekinesis, raise my hand.

Don't make me pull this thread over! I swear I'll do it!

If I have to pull it over and... and...., well I don't know what I'll do, but you won't like it. That much I promise.

I swear. Driving a thread with you guys in the back is going to make me prematurely grey.

Damn kids.

Ahem. Sorry.

Day 3 results will be forthcoming.

Yay! I was quite surprised to see that you were actually going to order those fizzy drinks-gadgets. And you know you've missed an opportunity by not filming this and putting an edited version on youtube when all of your research has been finished, don't you?

So is your wife still adamant about squeezing bottles, about halfway into the research?

Duhn duhn DUUUUHN.....

The end of the third day is here and I now get to tell my wife: Nyah Nyah Na Nyah Nyah.

The squeezed out bottle, or should I say specimen, was opened with nary a fst - not a good sign. Surprisingly it did give a little sizzle and foam for a bit when poured, but that seems to have been it's last gas(p). It was flatter than Michael Jackson's typical date. (ooh, did I say that)

On to the non-squeezed bottle. Upon opening, it awoke with a friendly FSSSTT; the "I'm happy to see you kind of FSSSTT" that you'd expect from a well cared for bottle of pop. Pouring resulted in a reasonable head, and left enough fizz in the glass to still tickle the tongue a bit.

Recognizing that there is still much knowledge to be sought, I will only gloat in my victory for a moment. Suffice it to say that I am the winner, and my wife is the loser. That's gotta sting.

More science:
Using the only bottle of soda that had life left in it - um that would be my bottle in case anyone here forgot that I am the winner - I poured two glasses. The first glass was poured, and then infused with frozen H2O, more commonly known as ice. The second glass was poured over the "ice" that had already been carefully inserted into the large beaker (or glass to the layman).

/aside/ I'm feeling a bit more scientific this evening, perhaps buoyed by my success - remember, that I am the winner
Anywhooo, I'll try to keep the technical jargon (or language) to a minimum so that this important information does not get lost on the masses.

Back to the science: It seemed to both the wife and I (my opinion being the better of the two here given my scientifically proven superiority in knowledge of all things fizzy) that the glass that had ice added after the pour was slightly better tasting, or had just a bit more zing left in it.

I would also say that I observed much more foam being lost during the pour over the ice than was lost in the other pour with subsequent ice adding event thingy. Of course, pouring first and adding ice later resulted in two separate bouts of foam release, so it is a bit tough to measure without actually using a measuring device, and well, I didn't use one so tough boobies.

Suffice to say that ice last may be best, especially if inserted somewhat slowly - as in, not plopped like a drewprops poop. (catchy jingle there I say) However, already chilled soda could dramatically affect this test.

Next steps:
I just went to make sure that the lid on my non squeezed bottle was good and tight so that I can see just how far this baby will go. The wife, rather pathetically, wants to keep hers going for another day as well, so I will humor her.

I am still awaiting notification of transport for the high end CO2 retention apparati for the 5-way fizz-o-rama.

I have also decided it might be prudent to do a refrigerator based test to see what kind of effect the cooler temperature would have. I may have to hire someone to clean my refrigerator. Is that tax deductible?

Now, as we pull this thread back onto the highway, I'll remind the juvenile delinquents in the back that I'll be watching them in my rear-view mirror so behave.

And curiousuburb, stop bear-hugging the nice smoking man and put him down. No, not in the fridge.
I swear!

I have a face for radio.

Actually, the face really isn't that bad, but the 3rd chin never seems to catch the right light and ruins the whole thing.

I think you should extend the experiment with one final twist: The bottle that is able to make the highest fountain after dropping a mentos in it, wins :-)

Ah yes. I am planning on starting the next round of experiments soon. I picked up 6 bottles of Diet Dr. Pepper the other day, but haven't yet found time to get it all up and running.

And don't worry, I will have un-boxing (packaging) porn!

What if you re-pressurized the bottle with co2 ?

Put a few baby-carrot sized pieces of dry ice in the bottle and cap tightly before placing back in the fridge. Excellent for freshness and won't dilute the drink flavor at all. Good stuff.

Moogs, being from Mars you may not realize this, but not everyone have dry ice laying around. In warmer climates (anywhere but space, really), it's even a bit of a problem keeping the dry ice frozen for significant amounts of time, negating any impact it may have on the fizz in the soda bottle

No seriously. Import it if you have to. Get that dry ice in the bottle, wrench it down and put 'er in that ole fridge for safe keeping. But only if there are no little kids around. Dry ice can be harmful to little kids. Also if you hear strange noises coming from your fridge after freshening up your pop with dry ice, don't open it until the sound goes away.

Yeah, I wish the jackass who started this thread would finish his testing and post results already.

Oh wait, I'm the jackass.

I've been meaning to get around to it, but I always seem to be too busy. Maybe this is a good new years resolution.

I'll get on it soon, I haven't forgotten.

Moogs, you think too small.

Why, there's many fun to be had with dry ice.

For starter, don't put in a carrot sized dry ice. Make it half the bottle. give it to the poor sap and ask him to open it.

Even better, add some mentos to the product and turn it into a coke bomb!

And it's not all about coke. You can plink in a soap and a block of dry ice in a public bathroom and get the hell out of there.

Shame on you, Moogs, for not realizing the full potential of dry ice.

What are you talking about? Everyone knows Mentos interact badly with soda. Dry ice is the Taste Preserver ™ , dude. Nothing bad can happen when dry ice has your beverage's back....

Jeez. Trying to mess with people or something and here I'm providing the tip that makes all this air volume experimental crap moot. Dry ice is the solution and you only need a few pieces in there to make your half-full soda bottle burst with flavor again, after a week of getting stale in teh fridge.

You may slap yourself on the forehead now. Any chance this thread had of being comical is now dead.

DERRRRR! No really? I had no idea dry ice makes pop bottles explode.

Evidently this

wasn't a thinly enough veiled hint for those in the know to sit back and watch the fun.

Nice work there, chuckles.

Are you talking about the people who want to save the fizz or the bots? I saw this earlier and was going to report it, but damn it looks like it might just work!

Zippy however needs a big foot up the arse as he has not followed through as planned.

From experience you add air to preserve softdrinks as if you expel the air it releases carbonation to fill the area.
