I just downloaded the FCPX demo (again) and am trying to understand the interface.

I have to say that it seems that a lot of the "fine control" elements that I so loved about Final Cut Express seem to be gone.

Things are a lot more swoopy and pretty though.

So there's that.

More, have I on this.

So the actual work files are once again, in true modern Apple fashion, stored in a hidden directory? So when I log in I can access current and previous edited movies from a central interface? Maybe this is okay? I don't know?

I have to say, I do like being able to type 80% in a box if I want to set a value. In 'X' its pretty much all drag until it's somewhere around the desired value, and that's that. It's easy, but not as accurate and anal as I am.

However, I do use FCP X many hours every day, always for very similar cuts/edits, and once you get your workflow ironed out, its a joy to use, very quick turnarounds.

I was an FCP7 user before, and like the rest spat the dummy when this 'imovie pro' was released, but I do value its simplicity now, knowing the power is still behind the scenes when needed.

I've been an FCP user since version 1.2 and I really like FCP X.

Loose, rough move-around is cool and all but I really, really miss the fine control that I had with the old version. I also don't like the way that the keyframe controls seem tucked away.

Maybe it's different for a multi-monitor setup?

I realize that I need to spend a LOT more time with the app to really get it.

Thanks for joining us.

This article has truly helped me understand the magnetic timeline better.

A lot more research left before I fully understand the interface here, but I don't really love the way the library of clips works but maybe there are customizations of the layout that I can change to make things better...
