Since yesterday I've noticed the speaker on my 5s sounds blown out when making the incoming text message and charging sounds. Anybody ever had this?

Blow in the headphone jack to jog loose any dust that may be shorting the headphone insertion sensor.

Kick this is sans earphones, so I think it's truly a speaker issue.

Yeah, I know. If it gets dusty it can short out in there and cause the speaker to cut in and out, leading to a bizarre effect.

I've had this happen myself actually. It's probably not recommended, but I found that inserting the sharp end of a safety pin brings out lots of dust. Also, the lightning port if you're having poor connection issues there.
