Brad, at some point you asked me what I used to touch each region to expand the map as though someone was playing the game. This is what I was using to do that:
http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins...rationcontrol/ The downside it that it's been dropped fro development it looks like. Don't know what I'll use now. This was great. It is open source if you want to look through it and see if it's something you can revive or rewrite. Maps may be down for a while. I'm working to upgrade Beast to Mavericks and thus won't be in the current mode. I'll likely switch back to the Leopard install on Beast every now and then for an update, just know it might not be anywhere near regular while I work on that machine.

So, Mavericks and my motherboard are not friends it seems. Looks like I'm just going to go with Mountain Lion at this point. It's amazing how old Leopard feels now.

Delphi: I noticed you're building a mob trap in your 'prison'. You might want to change the design a bit since you're leaving very few air blocks at spawn level (which is ultimately the first and most important check in the mob spawning algorithm). Either way, I am slowly constructing a communal one over the ocean in the north; they are far enough apart not to affect each other unless there are multiple people on the server at once...

FYI, maps have moved from my VPS to my home network. I don't expect this to tax things too much for usage but I expect it will remove me from being a resource issue on my VPS node. Everything should work as expected and everyone should be able to use it as though nothing changed. Just note it might be slightly slow loading at times since it is on my network.
My VoIP and MC server take priority over other traffic on my network so don't expect the MC game to be hindered by this move. Am I missing a map? * Brad, mind updating the initial post with links to these archive maps? I'm thinking about adding it to the mc.applenova.com server page too, what are your thoughts on that? After Cactuar and before Tekkit was a short-lived, unnamed (I believe) world. I can upload the last backup I have of it for you later this weekend if you want to spin it through the mapperator.

On the game server, there should be a copy of that world here:
Code:
/opt/minecraft/backups/previous/converted/world_06_noname This directory has the original tarballs of the worlds before I converted them from older world formats to the current format: Code:

I felt like quite the explorer out there on my own with nothing but a sword, raw meat, some wood, and a boat.
I was dodging creepers so they might kill the skellies and spiders on my tail. Further and further I went, encountering giant mushrooms, huge trees, a field of grass ablaze, and then, out of the corner of my eye... a beautiful glass pyramid... I wasn't looking for it precisely, just wandered off in a new direction... I will not spoil the fun for those who haven't found it... Edit: Personally, I will flit between the two centers of civilization -- I have the motivation to get the mob trap done at old spawn, so its got to get done, but most resource gathering and new house construction will be done at new spawn. Yup! That was Outset Island, which in the Tekkit world became the Tower of Fanatics. I guess the Tower of Fanatics was technically a house of sorts, but not really. Certainly wasn't its purpose, lol. Oh EE2...

Since we don't have the maps server running, I made one the old fashioned way!
The cursor is over my house. North of me is Owen. East of me is (I think) IJak/TPoit. Northeast is RowdyScot. The tiny sand island to the west is Grey/709. Southeast at the round cove is Drew. In the northeastern mountains is Elysium. Not sure where the rest of you guys are! The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. So I was looking at the possibilities of making maps again but there is a major technical problem now.
Because of the way the world is now the map gen program is unable to render them. It also looks like the log is going to stay filled with errors about misplaced pictures, animals, mobs, chests etc... As the world stands maps may never happen again. If there is some way to convert the regions that were moved into place in the new world we might be ok. Or, start over again with this seed and leaving our original world at spawn and then using something like MCEdit to move spawn to a new region. This way everything might work. This is why all of our livestock was in the ocean near current spawn, it's entity location stayed relative to spawn and not the dirt it was standing on originally. Any ideas on a fix for this? If we plan to keep this world going forward maps would be cool. Every map gen fails with this same error: Code:

It should be possible to write a script that would crack open the region files from the original world and remove all of the non-block entities. This would mean losing the animals and some other things, of course, but the structures would be OK. Writing such a script is within my abilities (it would not be unlike the chunk-pruning script I wrote ages ago), but I'm afraid I wouldn't have the time for such an undertaking in the very near future. Even if I did this, we might still need to consider rebooting the rest of the world because I don't know what effect it would have on other entities. The easier option would be to reboot the whole world, drop the old-world region files in their original place, and move the spawn location like you described. If we do this, I might want to explore new seeds because the old-world region would clobber the area in which we currently reside. Maybe I could find a seed that has another good starting position away from the origin. Another alternative is to wipe only the old-world region files and see if the problems go away. Then I could try in-game copying sections of the world using the same mechanism that I used to get our old Bridgeport, etc. structures. The WorldEdit and Multiverse plugins are not officially stable for bukkit 1.7 (nothing is), but I already have dev builds installed and they seem to basically work. Hmm... so, I guess we really just have two options: 1. Reboot the whole world, put CC in the origin where it started, and move spawn far away. 2. Keep the current world, wipe the CC files from the current world, and see what happens. Copy over CC piecemeal later. I'm not sure which I prefer, but I kind of like the latter more than the former. What are everyone else's thoughts? The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. I vote for clearing entities in place with appropriate commands.
Not sure about world loading, but having the chunks where the entites have respawned loaded and issuing the already present kill entities command (also variants available through bukkit plugins) should be sufficient. On the other hand, almost all entities will eventually despawn. The remainder can be found and killed in nightly raids... |

I vote for the former*; that's the way I assumed it was going to be from the start. Everything works in CC, nothing is wonky, etc., we just move spawn out 5K blocks or so. Copy/pasting CC piecemeal *might* work, it might not (honestly, I'm leaning towards not). I'd rather stick to what's proven at this point.
* I don't vote for finding a new seed. This one is great, and if the positions that the strays were in is any indication, it's mostly swamp, forest and ocean we'd be copying over. The other great areas would still be around the edges. I'm sure there's another ocean-edge forest we could transplant to in the current seed. Likely closer to one of the sexy biomes like Extreme Spruce with that podzal or whatever type flooring. So it goes. |

Expanding on that a little:
1) Keep CC in place. 2) Wipe the area around it, replace with current seed. 3) Find a new, sexy home for spawn 4) Profit! Really, there's no reason not to just expand the edges of CC. Moving it around so it was hard-ish to find caused a bunch of issues, and someone found it on like, what, day 2? I'd suggest making a rule that says something along the lines of "no transporting goods for x many weeks or until the new world is up to speed with the old." That way we don't have an influx of store-bought goods coming into a new, pristine world and somebody builds their house out of diamond or redstone or whatever. Some of us might *want* to go back and finish projects before starting up something in the new world, or at least conspire to build a decent Nether system between the two so they are easily accessible for everyone. After we all build abodes - no matter how temporary - in the new world, of course. That should be a requirement. I get the coord secrecy and wanting a fresh start, but honestly, that won't work. Those who want to build in new biomes will, and those who are in-between projects in CC are probably going to jump elbows-out into the new world, but there might be some that want to stay a few more weeks in CC to finish up projects. I, for one, don't want to leave another unfinished project behind. I vote a reboot via 1-4 above. If it's possible to temp-save the world to move over any structures that people are invested in that would be ideal. So it goes. Last edited by 709 : 2013-12-17 at 18:00. |

I'm fine with a reboot.
Hiding old spawn confused me anyway. Let people run at their own speeds. A reboot would allow me to go to my village and make the villagers safe before the mobs wipe them out. ... |
