iPhone OS 3.0 is now available through iTunes.
Unfortunately I can't download it yet, because I'm sitting in an airport waiting to catch a flight to Chicago and iTunes doesn't recognize NetShare's proxy settings. Does anyone know if there's an HTTP direct download? I can't find one on Apple's site. I remember there was one for OS 2.0 before it was available on iTunes. Logic, logic, logic. Logic is the beginning of wisdom, Valeris, not the end. |

I have no idea...I didn't do anything, but my notes from my iPhone are indeed over in my Mail.app, under Reminders. Maybe you just have to write some notes on your iPhone, then dock the thing?

I just downloaded and installed it but iTunes can't connect to the store to reauthorize the phone. My friend is having a similar problem. FYI

I have plenty on my iPhone already. I already synced with the cable but nothing... won't notes sync OTA with MobileMe?

But it occurs to me that even if I download it before takeoff, it won't do me any good since I can't activate it in the air. It's not like I can't wait until I land... but I want it now! Logic, logic, logic. Logic is the beginning of wisdom, Valeris, not the end. |

Find My iPhone works, and is really kinda neat. Takes a bit of pressure off, if you're out and about for an evening.
You just have to hope that whoever found/picked up your phone is a kind soul who intends to return it, vs. some shithead who found himself a new toy. Even with this older, non-GPS phone of mine, it found within about a mile or so. I'm sure with a newer GPS phone it will get even tighter and more accurate. I tested the message as well, and it popped up immediately. You have to turn that feature on in your Mail, Contacts, Calendar settings, inside the MobileMe set-up sub-section. |

My update and installation went very smoothly.
Has anyone tried using some sort of AIM and the push server yet? I'm wondering how well it works. I'm sure I'll test it out in class. Die young and save yourself.... @yontsey |

Hidden improvement (I'm very happy with this..):
All my music apps which use an on screen interface for direct control of notes and other events, suffer from significantly less lag/delay between touching the screen and hearing the sound now. Playing an instrument on an amplified iPhone finally seems to have become a valid option. |

One thing I'm happy with is the ability to sync calendars from your computer as well as over the air. So those Address Book-generated Birthday's and the normal Holiday's calendars can finally be added to the phone.

Agreed. I've never understood why they couldn't be added over MobileMe.

Activation Server is still inaccessible for me... I'll give it 24 hours and try again tomorrow night when the initial rush should hopefully have passed.

Does shake to shuffle work? If the activation servers are borked I'm going to hold off updating and live vicariously through you guys.

I haven't even tried downloading 3.0 yet...I'm running a regular Mac update first - it's been a while since I've updated because the internet connection in my room is pretty poor (bearable for browsing, but not large downloads). How poor? With my 10.5.7 update, I have "about 9 hours" remaining, and it's been going for a while. It took about four hours to update iTunes, iPhoto, and Quicktime. *sigh*
and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong |

Updated mine no problem.
Actually even did the tethering hack, so I'm posting this on my MBA with my iPhone tethered through USB. Works pretty seamlessly, much easier than NetShare does. No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now. |

I notice that if you tap the microphone in voice notes it moves the little needle. Like people do to "test" whether the microphone is live. Neat little thing hahah.

Working nicely on my 3G - but has anyone else noticed that syncing to iTunes seems slower than usual?
Also I notice Safari seems to handle large data entry boxes (like this 'reply' box more gracefully, even though I still can't scroll up without moving the whole damn page!!! Another plus - 'teh snappy' has improved lots too, even on my seriously laggy home wifi! |

Update is done.
Retarded: 3.0 for the Touch includes the Voice Memos app. Touch doesn't have a freakin' mic! |
