You can finally order JUST the BT Keyboard and Mouse with a new Power Mac G5.

For $99, you can add the BT Adapter, keybord and mouse to your order, and pass on the wired versions. I know lots of people bitched about this with the previous G5 models.

Just thought I'd toss this out there. Not a bad deal at all.

Not a bad deal, but ...

[vent] that plastic white *shitty* looking keyboard and mouse are not a good match for the G5 - or a PowerBook for that matter. They might be a fine match for the iMac, iBook and iPod, but Apple should also take some time to design a BT keyboard and mouse that will complement their Pro line up. And, while they're at it they should update those damned displays already! [/vent]

... we now return you to your usual programming

It's because the bluetooth dongle now imitates a normal HID device rather than the translation being done in the OS. This means you can use the keyboard with the BIOS and other situations where the OS isn't in control. Before this update you'd be stranded if you only had the bluetooth keyboard.

There's more info here (though the link isn't working for me right now):

You can also read it halfway down http://planet.gnome.org/ (search for "The HID Switcher Proxy")
