Sounds like you have a corrupt file in the boot sequence. It might be a good time to do an Archive and Install to get past the problem, then update from that. I'm going to guess that will be quickest and least painful. Lots of things could cause that, all of them exceptionally infrequent. But once it happens you were the unlucky recipient of p(x) = 1.0.

You didn't mention what kind of system you have.

Do you really mean you are updating from 10.0.2 to 10.2.4 or do you mean 10.2.0 to 10.2.4?

Yo should be able to use the disc that came with your computer in any case. Try starting up while pressing the "C" key (or if that doesn't work, look at the manual to see which key combination boots from the CD-ROM drive / DVD drive) and you should be able to install the old system (after selecting the right installation option).

Tell us how far you get with this, and I'm sure someone will be able to give more help.

OK, thanks for the info.

After a quick search through Apple's support section, the problem might be that there might not be an updater directly from 10.0.2 to 10.0.4. You may have to update 10.0.2 to 10.0.3 and then to 10.0.4.

That's just a guess, though.

Edit: There are two updaters to 10.0.4. If you have the updater that is 12 MB, it will only upgrade from 10.0.3 to 10.0.4. In order to update from 10.0, 10.0.1, 10.0.2, or 10.0.3, the update size is 19.3 MB.

Edit 2: Look at this http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/osx-c...ware-and-more/
Assuming you have a DVD player, you can get OS 10.2.x for $17.99 or 10.3.x for $47.99. Even though you only "need" 10.0.4 for your Mac Office 2004, you'd be better off going to at least 10.2.x.
