Hey guys, I'm stumped on a problem with my lady's iBook (G4 1.25Ghz, running 10.4.2, no third party crap).

The lappy starts up and goes through the motions (initial screen with OS X in a white box and status bar, but it never makes it to the log in screen. It goes to a blue screen and hangs. I've done the usual (permissions, PRAM, NVRAM, fsck, etc.) to no avail. I'm all out of ideas. Thoughts?

I've fixed stuff like that with an Archive & Install with Preserve Users.

It's time-consuming but it works and you don't have to recreate the account.

Have you tried a safe boot? It sounds like something's mucking up the start up process when the OS starts loading things.

I've seen this happen when a system update hangs and is rebooted at an incomplete stage. Has that happened here recently?

Well, I chatted with her a bit and she *did* remember downloading some new widgets right before her system went down. (shocker) I popped into safe boot, deleted them, and the system is working fine now. I ran a permissions repair and it made repairs on the following:

Code:
./Library/Widgets ./usr/lib/php/build/acinclude.m4
Thanks everyone.

Woo hoo! Mr. T to the rescue!

Glad to hear it's working again.
