Folks,
I have been using Yahoo as my default page since the 90s. There have been times in the past when they have forced a change to their main page UI that I didn't like at first but learned to in the future. I have spent a lot of time trying to get used to their latest change and this time I find that it is completely unacceptable. The hover-over buttons with their huge automatic page overlay thing (whatever you call it) is totally annoying and is REALLY slow sometimes when I am at work (I like to use the same home page at work as I do at home, Lunch Hour ofcourse...). So are their any other alternative launch-point sites that give you easy access to weather, sports, finance, new, etc.. other than Yahoo that you guys like and have minimal funny features. What do you guys use? I've been with Yahoo for so long the last time I have had anything other than Yahoo as my default page was back in the Lycos or AltaVista days. Thanks JTA |

I use iGoogle too. I use the chess, finance, docs, and puzzles, gadgets. And the misted forest theme.
I didn't like it at first but I had to use it to play chess with one of my friends (most online chess games are blocked where he works). After using it now for a few months I've decided I really like it. |

Click Page Options on the upper right and switch to Compact View. Helps a bit.

regular Google. Definitely don't want to deal the portal and the slowness that encompasses it. I never use the google search box, though.

If I were to use a portal it'd be iGoogle, but I prefer regular Google.

My favorite and the one I use everywhere is: about:blank.

Ditto. I never really liked the idea of a portal; if I want something, I'll ask for it, kthxbye.
Aside: Only Safari does it right. I find it a bit annoying how other browsers (IE, I'm looking at you) put "about:blank" in the address bar. Good thing Safari is my main browsers. |

I use the Top Sites feature in Safari on my Mac and in Chrome on my work PC.

I hated homepages... they just take time away from where I really want to go.

I use the bookmarks menu in Safari. For a while I used top sites, but once the novelty wore off I got back to bookmarks because they show the same and load instantly. I haven't used an actual portal site since Netscape.

Awesome; thanks for the correction. I hadn't had an excuse to install FF and forgot if it acted like IE, insisting that it put in "about:blank", and necessitating an extra step of selecting the text and deleting it.

My favorite "home" page is a blank white window.
