Love the Mini. (Writing this from a mid-2011 Mini that has done yeoman service for our family, and is still quite quick for the uses to which we put it). I really hope that Apple keeps it.

I do too. I have personally had three of them and am currently using two. One of them being a G4!

I've still got a near mint G4 Cube case that I eventually plan to shoehorn a mini into.

Near-mint G4 Cube cases were rare even when the machine was released.

I saw a video of someone putting an SSD in one of those. Unfortunately, the part where he discovers if it's any faster wasn't out at the time.

It wouldn't make a huge difference for some tasks, but better for some. The speed would be limited by the 133mb/s cap of the IDE bus.

Should still help due to far lower latency.

Seems to me that those things (and others like them) have been around for a million years.

I got an email about it late last night.
Saw USB 3.1 on it and thought it might be significant since nobody seems to be expecting a new Mini today.

If it's an old product, OWC has some weird ideas about marketing, just hours before an Apple event.

Well, it's "USB 3.1 Gen 1", which for all intents and purposes is a funny way of saying USB 3.0. (It has USB 3.0's bandwidth, not 3.1's.)

Not that it's much of a problem, since no hard disk is even gonna come close to saturating that. It's only relevant if you put an SSD in there.

I remember seeing those at the Apple Store for the original form factor when they were still on G4

So are we fairly sure now that the desktops won't get updated until the New Year?

After all, we're in November now, and there's no hint of an announcement.

No. It will likely be a January surprise (which I doubt) or March-ish.

My desktop just got updated. I'm running an i7-6700K, GIGABYTE GA-Z170-HD3, 64GB CORSAIR Vengeance LPX DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200), GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 750 Ti in a super silent Fractal Design Define S case. Best Mac Pro I've ever had so far. With this much room, the Minecraft world is likely moving to this machine.

Windows or macOS? If the later, how'd the installation go?

macOS Sierra specifically. The install went fine. I had to fine tune the Audio and graphics card though. Other than that everything was awesome. Followed a guide on a website named Tony Mac x86. Tons of help there if you need it. This was my 4th Hackintosh so I'm kinda used to it at this point.
