In case anyone is looking for hard cases, I found these online. They look like a good Pelican alternative to me, but I'm not sure about Canadian shipping cost, if not, our American friends can enjoy.

here

Question for you all. I'm trying to optimize a set of images for online galleries. This has never been a consideration for me before: anything I should be doing besides restricting the size and quality level. I'm going to try to stay under 1024pix wide - want to help load times and limit image theft aswell.

Off-topic (click to toggle):
That picture of the two fat people standing on the case is priceless.

Pretty funny no?

BTW, I just heard that the brilliant Sebastiao Salgado is exhibiting a major new show in Italy right now. Not sure if it's traveling or not. I hope so. If he made it from Brazil to Italia, surely a stop in Canada would be worthwhile. For all you lucky Euros, why not make a nice day trip to Italy?

Yeah no doubt about that. I've always wondered if Nikon and Canon sell enough copies of the top end lenses to cover the development costs. I guess they sell well with high end pros, and rich amateurs, otherwise they wouldn't make them in the first place. I do see a good number of AF-S 300mm F2.8G VR's, AF-S 200-400mm VR's and AF-S 600mm F4's in the field (along with Canon equivalents), but then the west cost is birder/wildlife photographer heaven.

I wonder if the market for that stuff is all agency and/or rental outfits. I was a press conference yesterday and the level of lighting that they showed up with was awesome, total overkill.

Let me guess, there were video cameras? If so, there is never enough light.

Yep. Lotsa lights for the video cameras. Smallish room too, I thought, but I don't shoot video.

I don't shoot much video (nothing beyond iPhone level stuff), but from what I've seen you want as much light as you can possibly get. Light that's good for still photos doesn't always work for standard video. Unless you are working with uncompressed or RAW video anyway.

Limited flexibility in shutter speed will do that...

Found link to this on NR: could be a solution to the D800 grip - Sugru

That one is a little ugly, but could be functional. Might have to buy some, just enough to make a little thumb ridge on the back?

I'm not sure I'd trust anything like that for long term use. Wouldn't it just be lovely if you're hold your camera by one hand with that stuff and a piece snapped off?

A solid glue-on grip or skin would be better, like what Franiec does for smaller cameras - just enough to provide a thumb ridge at the back and a little more depth/volume under the palm and fingers at the side and front. It's complicated a bit because the memory card door is right there so it would have to be made from at least two pieces.

There are other solutions, like camera armor that add extra grip, without the need for nasty glues.

That's an idea I'd at least try out. Any of you folks used camera armour? Most of it looks like it might ruin the tactility of the camera surfaces though, and if anything it makes the cameras seem more conspicuous in the product shots I've seen online.
