Someone trying to brute force it? Thought I should let someone know just in case this is not an isolated incident.

I got one of those yesterday, and just got a spam PM from an account created in 2007. Looks like the brute forcing worked…

I got one a couple weeks ago. Came to change my password, remembered how much I liked the scenery, so I stuck around again.

Plus I need any excuse I can get to type on my mechanical keyboard.

Come waste your time with me

I'll leave the big boy discussion about brute forcing to the more knowledgeable among us, but this has inspired me to finally change the password I've had here since day 1.

Mine was the same from day one as well. Terrible password too. Guess I just got lucky for nearly 11 years.

I'd forgotten I was signed up here! Got the "Account locked" email too - there seems to be a spate of these hacking attempts on various forums, probably to spam other users by means of the PM system.

Now what shall I change my password to - "qwerty"? or maybe "passward"?.....

Please post the IP addresses if they're in the emails, like the one above. I can always start blacklisting them…

Hi Brad,

Not sure how useful it is but I've taken the liberty of investigating the IP addresses and have parsed together the following using some mapping software that enables me to run/hex GUIs.

Seems to me from where the IP addresses are located that he is operating primarily in west or east Europe and the latest from arteggio would suggest he's holed up in Brest, France. Nevertheless the grey area below would be our best place to nail him.

If you want me to get my pretty ass over to Brest let me know, I'm pretty sure I can nail this guy hard.

Edit: Just realised my IP scanner has not specified in which country Brest is located. Turns out there's one in France and one in Belarus, either could be likely target. Any other european members who could help so we could take a Brest each?

I got locked out from the IP: 188.138.17.15 in mid-July. I didn't see it until I checked my spam email account.

Too bad we can't narrow it down. We don't know if he's along the shaft, up near the head, or hiding under the sack.

Two from July for this account:

50.7.159.196 Frankfurt am Main, Germany

89.234.157.254 Saint-Pierre, France

Both hit common forum spammer addresses...

They seem to be cupping the balls, and gripping the bottom of the shaft...

If they are using Tor, which is likely, just ban exit nodes. (But not relay nodes please)
