So I have a ridiculously common name, and I managed to snag it on gmail.
This means that I get mail for every idiot with my name that thinks if they just tack "@gmail.com" on the end of theirs, they get their mail. I have been erroneously sent medical records, bank statements, mortgage records, divorce papers (not mine!), and all sorts of wacky stuff. This one takes the cake though... What have you been sent that made you say "what the hell?" --------- Contact Info Darren Shuster Pop Culture Public Relations Phone: 818-744-1851 Email: darren@popculturepr.com Sent on 09/06/14 [12:57:56 PM] ---------------------- pitch: first look -- Darren Interested? BEAUTIFULPEOPLE.COM LAUNCHES MENTORSHIP INITIATIVE We think the initiative is quite positive and useful. After all, mainstream magazines, TV and Web outlets are constantly putting out pieces on beauty and fashion makeovers. Note to Editors Greg Hodge, Managing Director and mentors available for interviews. Members of the Press are welcome to receive a free session with a BeautifulPeople.com mentor. Contact: Darren Shusterarren@popculturepr.com / +1 818 744 1851 New York, NY — (September 8, 2014) — 14-year old BeautifulPeople.com, the dating site for good-looking people only, is launching a mentorship service for people who are not attractive enough to be voted on to the exclusive dating site. A sample of the 7.5 million people who have been rejected by the site will be contacted by email to ask if they require mentoring by BeautifulPeople.com members. The scheme, dubbed “adopt an ugly person”, will also be open to anyone of the public over the age of 18 who feels they could do with help to improve their looks and dating successes. The new mentorship initiative will instruct those not attractive enough to be voted into the exclusive dating club, on how to improve their looks and style, while also giving them dating and relationship therapy. The mentors have been chosen from among current BeautifulPeople.com members as a charitable initiative to help those less fortunate than themselves. Mentors have been selected based on their individual expertise in areas such as styling, grooming and dating and relationship advice. Each unattractive person chosen for the scheme will be carefully matched according to their individual needs to a mentor selected from a high-caliber list that includes doctors, models, stylists, authors, hypnotherapists and various dating and relationship specialists. Once chosen they will work together either in person or via video conferencing. Greg Hodge, Managing Director of BeautifulPeople.com, views the program as a great way for beautiful people to give back: “We all know the classic teenage movie scenes where the ugly duckling removes her glasses and transforms into the beautiful woman with the help of her friends. It’s a positive thing for the online dating community”. A mentorship program introduced on such a scale has not been done before in the fiercely competitive online dating market. The initiative promises more than just advice on improving looks. With some mentors having degrees in sociology and psychology, the aim is to build confidence, aid personal growth and work with individuals to reach their full potential. One of the mentors, Allison Brannan, is a fashion stylist with a degree in psychology. “Physical appearance is critical, whether we like it or not, “she said. “What is most important, however, is having the character to back it up. I have seen men and women dissolve from a 10-out-of-10 to a 3 as soon as they open their mouths. Equally I have seen a 5 become a 10 during the course of a single dinner.” Elaine Fay, human resources chief in a multinational corporation, said: “Elaine Fay, human resources chief in a multinational corporation, said: “I find it rewarding guiding individuals on how to attract positive people into their life, and show them how to leave potential suitors always wanting more.” Javier Marti, a graduate from the Hypnosis Motivation Institute, author, motivational speaker and BeautifulPeople.com mentor uses hypnotism to build confidence and teaches the art of conversational hypnosis to give all his mentees a competitive advantage while dating. Hodge continued: “It’s politically correct these days to say: ‘Just love yourself the way you are.’ But, that’s easier said than done when you’re home alone on a Saturday night eating a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. People should be encouraged to better themselves and by introducing the mentorship initiative we are taking a positive step towards that goal” People in need of dating and make over advice can sign up for the program for free and connect with a mentor, by visiting http://www.beautifulpeople.com/ The mentorship program is being launched globally. Entry to BeautifulPeople.com is only possible after passing a democratic rating process, where existing members vote on applicants based on photographs and a brief profile submitted. There have been over 600 marriages through unions founded on BeautifulPeople.com and many beautiful babies born. Members of BeautifulPeople.com enjoy: Access to beautiful people locally and from around the world Glamorous parties and a jet set global network Approaches by leading film and TV companies Extended professional networks Note to Editors Greg Hodge, Managing Director and mentors available for interviews. Members of the Press are welcome to receive a free session with a BeautifulPeople.com mentor. Contact: Darren Shusterarren@popculturepr.com / +1 818 744 1851 |

Maybe you should change your name to something less common than Brad. Like, I dunno… Jason? That's kind've weird in its own right.

I don't have a very common name, but I get tagged on Twitter and Instagram at least a few times a week. It's really amusing that people just automatically assume that someone's name IRL is their name on social media.
No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now. |

I was receiving prop photographs and plans for the Avengers movie because the propmaster's email address was too close to mine.
I had a friend offering to give me nude photos of herself if I'd send her the files to show to a guy she was dating. She assured me that they wouldn't share them, but I live in the real world Boobs are great but NO WAY was I going to spill those beans. Even with the movie out and done and everything, I'm not going to post them or email them. ... |

I got an email confirmation once from Amtrack that they had in fact destroyed the physical copy of this guy riding the train on a specific date.
Makes me wonder why he wanted his name removed so badly.... Google is your frenemy. Caveat Emptor - Latin for tough titty I tend to interpret things in the way that's most hilarious to me |

@Ryan:
It would be super funny if your shenanigans lead this dude to believe that the real Eastwood Riot was no longer together and he cut off all ties with them. ER: "Why you don't talk to us anymore?" MT: "You told me you guys broke up and moved to NY, or something." ER: "We never said that." MT: "Oh, yeah, oh, yeah. I have the email right here. Says Mike and Gardner had some issues and you took up Jazz." ER: <pause> "Dude, I quit the meth, man, but I don't remember anything about Jazz." MT: silence ER: "Yeah. I don't know. Let me talk to the boys." MT: "Okay. Get back to me on that." <puts Eastwood Riot on ignore list> WHOOPS! - AppleNova is the best Mac-users forum on the internet. In an unrelated instance, there's some other family that shares my last name and has their own Ryan up in Minnesota or something. For years I was getting baby pictures, barbecue invites, vacation schedules, new phone numbers. Finally I got an invite to their family reunion in Arizona with fifty of them on the email. Hit reply-all and informed them that I'm sure the real Ryan T. would love to join them but he probably feels pretty left out of the family at this point, you might want to check on him. |

I have idiot in Utah who keeps using my email address to sign up for things: Sell his truck, book tickets to Six Flags, join the PlayStation Network, join a bunch of dating sites, make appointments at his physiotherapist...
It's infuriating. I have so much personal info about this guy, but obviously I'm too nice to do anything about it. I actually tried to call him a few months ago, spoke to his roommate, who didn't understand what I was trying to tell him. Grrr. |

I have the same problem with various people around the world it seems, some in Ireland, others in the USA. The most common misconception seems to be that Gmail pays any attention to a dot in addresses (might want to check this out Ryan - https://support.google.com/mail/answer/10313?hl=en) though what address the other people think they are using to sign up for stuff I'm not sure about.
I commonly get an email from some guy's mother arranging yet another family get-together, and after many responses informing her she's not emailing her son I'm pretty tempted to book a plane ticket and turn up at the next one... |
