Hello,

I bought an iBook G4 from a friend and it was working great, I hooked it to another iBook by firewire cable and wiped the HD so I could easily start new.
Now when I boot all I get is a flashing folder icon with a ?mark and rotating face. I insert the OSX Disc and restart holding down the C key and nothing happens, It still comes to same flashing folder.
iBook, Mac OS X (10.4.1), iBook G4
The drive worked previously, The Disc is Mac OSX 10.0.3 for iBook
I have also tried holding the option key at startup and nothing loads except a refresh logo and an error but no drive containing OSX Disk

Are you positive that its 10.0.3 and not 10.3 on that disc?
According to everymac.com, the first ibook G4 shipped with 10.3, which may explain why it will not boot with the C key.

Do you have any way to copy the contents of that disk to a flash drive?

Otherwise, you can always leave the two iBooks connected via Firewire and see if you can get the disk to load in the other iBook. I've done that before, and I think that works, but it's been a while.

Yes the disk package I was given when I bought it has Mac OSX 10.0.3, how would I get 10.3?

Good question. Only thing that comes to mind right now would be eBay.

Your friend probably gave you a clamshell iBook startup disc? Honestly I don't remember *any* machine shipping with 10.0, unless it was included along with the OS9 disc for kicks.
