Does the iPod Nano has a better sound quality than HDD-based iPod? Does anyone here have both iPod Nano and 4th/5th iPod?
I'm thinking of either the iPod nano or the 5th iPod to replace my old 4th iPod. EDIT: I was told that the iPod Nano uses the same chip that's on 4G iPod, so I'm wondering does the 5G iPod uses the same chip as the 4G? Thanks. Last edited by BlueApple : 2006-08-13 at 22:20. |

sound quality should not be any different, the quakity depends on the compression you use the type of compression, and your headphones/speakers. i have never thought it was crappy and if your a normal non audiophile person it will be fine for you

Great through the stock headphones, sounds a little shakey through a nice system, even with a very high quality file. |

oh come on, its an mp3 player. If it was a b&o system, sure, sound would be important, but you aren't expecting amazing sound in that are you?

It's mostly the variable-level headphone amplification that lowers fidelity.
If not using headphones, much better sound can be had by using the dock connector. With the right plug/adapter, you can get true line-level output. Line-level is the way to go if you're using an off-board amplifier. |

Some audiophiles (over at head-fi.com) claim the shuffle is superior to the larger iPods' sound.

through the line out, the ipods with lossless files are more than acceptable as a line-out source for the ipod....
however if you are going to be using lossless only, it's gonna kill your battery life you need to get an amplifier to appreciate good quality sound with an ipod .... the built in amplifier simply doesn't have enough power to properly drive most cans what headphones are you planning on using by the way? |

you WANT shure e4c's! They pwn!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!
Now I've stopped acting like a teenager, I would like to point out that the shure e3c's or e4c's are simply incredible to listen too.. They made me want to re-record my entire music library all over again, but in lossless. mmmmmmmmmmmmm.... no loss.. ~/Süddøo Small-time web designer for hire in teh UK |
