Hello everyone.
Long time lurker finally has something to ask. Yesterday I purchased a new iMac, after my three year old G4 iBook's hard drive failed (and with a lot of screaming too) to spin up and mentioned iBook only boots via an external hard-drive. Now I have put the LAN cable into the new shiny toy and am wondering if I can have still access to the internet on my iBook via a Computer-to-Computer Network (via Airport). The normal networking deal works almost perfectly via Computer-to-Computer network. iBook: G4 1 GHz, Mac OS 10.4.8 iMac: C2D 2 GHz, Mac OS 10.4.10 Thanks in advance and good day. gregor |

Yes, you can.
On the iMac, go to System Preferences --> Sharing --> Internet --> Share your connection from: [Built-in Ethernet] --> To computers using: [x] Airport --> Airport Options... --> Name your network and add a password if you like --> OK --> Start Then, from the iBook, select the new wireless network and put in the password if you added one. It should be fairly simple. Thank You very much.
I would have never thought of that, despite being in the Sharing preference pane for quite some time. It works like a charm. Why is it so simple, sometimes? PS: Even file sharing works (of course only after starting the Personal File Sharing service). |
